Trip Report

Overall, about a B or B-.

Rooms are dated, but still pretty nice. I did not get any upgrade (as a Plat), but the standard room was pretty good size.

Also, one oddity: The web site lists a 50 meter pool: "51.19 meters/167.9 feet" . That is a full olympic-sized pool. In reality, the pool is about 40 feet; certainly not enough to swim laps, which I had been looking forward to.

But the breakfast arrangement is a reason I might not go back. There is no full-service dining room. There is a take-out counter ("Ingredients") with four very overworked employees trying to feed an entire hotel during breakfast rush. You have to run around to various "food stations" to pick up your meal, necessitating waiting in several long lines, then another line to pay. There is a "service dining room" which is just a place to sit while a runner goes and picks up your "to go" order for you at the counter. Breakfast menu is also very limited, and the food was poor quality. I would not consider up to Westin standards at all. Why pay $180 / night for that?

I'd forego Ingredients (used to be a much nicer restaurant in the 80's... forget what it was called, but it was our traditional Easter brunch spot as a kid) and walk across the street to one of the many Fountain Square options.

Staying here this week. I booked a basic two double beds room. As an SPG Gold I was "upgraded" to a Fountain View room (two double beds). They sell the Fountain View rooms for an extra $30 (I think) online. It is on an SPG Floor. I was asked without prompting what I'd like to have for my Gold amenity. They asked if I was interested in the "Make a Green Choice" program. When I asked if I could make that decision on a nightly basis they said that was fine. I have not confirmed that I can get 500 points rather than the $5 voucher they put under my door.

I think the furnishings are the same as when I was here in 2009. The climate control is adequate. The bed is very comfortable. The shower is that rainfall kind with a second wand (which I prefer). The exercise equipment seems up-to-date. There were two bottles of water in my room "Free and Clear" as well as Starbucks coffee. Parking is $15 in the lot below the hotel ($24 for valet parking) for seven or more hours. Parking in the Fountain Square lot is $5 for eight hours after 4PM weekdays and all day weekends. So walk across the street for something less than $15 parking if you arrive late and plan to be in the car early.

There are some really good restaurants within a block or two of the Westin. I haven't tried the restaurants within the building (Ingrediants, McCormick & Schmick's, and Over Vine). Its also an easy walk to either stadium or the start and finish lines of the Flying Pig.

I would stay here again if for no other reason than it's the only SPG hotel in the area.

I'll be staying at this hotel next month, arriving no earlier than 8pm on a Saturday night, and leaving the next day about early afternoon.

Is parking free on Saturday evenings and Sundays, so I can avoid the parking fee? Is on-street parking easily available near the hotel?

Just gotta say. This property was great from a service standpoint. The staff are fantastic.

UPDATE... Just stayed here and was pleasantly surprised. Check-in was very friendly and they upgraded me to a big corner room that had plenty of space. The hotel itself was also well maintained and well appointed. Service was excellent. When I walked in my room, I was greeted to a nice snack tray, which hit the spot after driving several hours.

I parked at the hotel at $17/day. Street parking was available everywhere and, where I was, it was free after 8pm.

Having never been to this city before, my son and I took a walk down to the stadiums and around downtown. It was 6PM and the area we were walking in was a ghost-town. Many places close at 6PM. There's also a lot of homeless that will aggressively beg for money. In the span of a few blocks, we were approached at least 6 times, followed once, and saw one verbally abusive (screaming at the top of the lungs) fight. If you're walking around after hours, I suggest you be situaionally aware.

If I had to be here again, I would certainly stay at this hotel.

Long time with no posts! Any recent stays to report? For where I need to be, this, the Renaissance, and the Courtyard are the best locations, though could make the Kinley work). Thanks in advance!

It is been a couple of years for me. This hotel is right downtown. Good location. Easy to walk to places. Cant remember the parking situation through. When I was last there, I cant recall any issues with the hotel.

Personally, I avoid courtyards like the plague. Not just this one, all of them. I think they are the worst hotel in the chain.

I do remember that Downtown Cincinnati is an interesting place. Lots of folks looking for $$$.

Wow, strange that I don't have any reviews here... I could have sworn I posted one when I was staying here regularly 2016-2018 due to its proximity to the federal buildings.

Overall this is a nice older grand dame sort of Westin. Upgrades were scant -- with effort maybe a "junior suite" which is really just a slightly larger corner room. But the regular rooms were fine, and the bar scene was always quite lively. Breakfast at the downstairs place was above average, and I believe I was always given a substantial daily $ credit (maybe $30) that covered my ($10-15) breakfast plus several bottled beverages for the day. I definitely preferred it over the Hilton & the Cincinnatian. I liked the Hyatt better but the extra block or two was not worth it in winter.

Food at Boca, Sotto, Mita's, Nada, and even Via Vite was always great. Good cocktail scene at Igby's. Metropole at the 21c for slightly bougie. Head up to Rheingeist Brewery for some fun times.

I'm flying out of CVG next week -- might actually spend the night downtown rather than by CVG just to eat at Boca again -- it has been too long!

Staying here tonight. It seems like these Marriott full service hotels in Midwest cities often have no recent reviews. I will provide a bit of an overview tomorrow or Friday

Meh. Decent option downtown. I don’t believe I was upgraded, dated standard room, Ok bar, smallish to medium sized gym. I don’t know what the breakfast benefit included, but I bought a decent omelette for about $13. Didn’t ask about lounge.

Must be tough for a hotel like this - probably was about half full, relatively low rate ($200), and costs have surely increased a lot over the past several years. However not sure what the better options would be. Seems like similar Hilton and Hyatt Regency options are nearby. There is an Autograph a bit away that seems to get good reviews. AC by the stadium does as well.

All that said I would consider staying again. Hotel was across the street from Jeff Rubys and my meeting place.

Lytle Park is often the choice for a lot of business travelers to CVG. Probably the best one in town, imo. but it gets overbooked a lot. The other ones are pretty mediocre.

At the Lytle, breakfast vouchers were provided on top of other Platinum/Titanium benefits.

Stayed at the AC at the banks once cause I couldn't find a room at Lytle and nothing special; wasn't particularly impressed.

I'd probably recommend Residence Inn Cincinnati Downtown/The Phelps as an alternative.

Lytle Park is the best hotel in downtown Cincinnati IMO. Great rooftop bar, excellent lobby bar and Italian restaurant, Rates are high, usually in the 350-400 range which is ridiculous for Cincy. I think parking is also around 50

I always stay across the bridge at the Covington Marriot Rivercenter. The Westin in downtown Cincinnati just reminds me of a funeral waiting to happen

Stayed here for three nights earlier this week.

Check-in was a strange affair. No information, nothing. I had to specifically ask for amenity - i.e. breakfast vouchers. I was given one. The guy also checked me in twice - and had to charge deposit twice as well (not a problem for me, since it will be refunded anyway), but still annoying. He had no clue or interest in what he was doing.

Was upgraded two days prior to arrival, to a studio corner room with Fountain Square view. The room was spacious and very comfortable, albeit very outdated. Nice views.

Service was bad. I requested housekeeping every day in the app. During my stay I received housekeeping 0,5 times. I.E. on my last day they did the bathroom, but not the bedroom, haha. News towels, toilet paper and emptied trash bin. But the bedroom was not done at all, bed was not made, trash not emptied, no coffee refill, nothing....very strange! Chat was useless, some agents replied in a timely manner, whilst others took several hours. Staff seemed to be more into talking to friends and family over the phone than serving guests....

No lounge, no pool. There is a gym on the top floor. Bar on the lobby level was great. Bartender was attentive and nice. That's the only focal service point at this hotel, imo.

Breakfast is "served" in the dull 1980s ground level cafe. Your voucher is good for warm/cold food and hot/cold beverages. I think it is outsourced, but tasty food and coffee. On the next day I had to go down to the reception to pick up more vouchers (I thought the one I got upon check-in was valid for the duration of my stay), and the same guy that checked me in the day before just gave me a bunch of vouchers, haha.

Can't beat the location. Too bad the service is lousy. Feels more like a limited service hotel like Courtyard or Four Points.

BTW - I paid only 121 dollar per night, plus taxes through BRG.
