Checked in today for a one-night stay on the $79 + $30 resort fee "sip stay dine" promo. At checkin was upgraded to Lux Tower room (possibly a junior suite); it's..."interesting", and certainly nice enough. (I've never actually stayed in a room with a mirror over the bed and a "casting couch" setup, plus the asian-style shower window). Most of the guests are LA-attractive level, and mostly seem to be bachelorette/hen night/etc. parties.
Apparently the $50 F&B credit is both days of a one-night stay. They're pretty expensive F&B options, but $100 for $109 is a great deal. There's an instagram sushi roll promo, too. The three "signature" restaurants onsite (Cleo, sushi, and bazaar meats) are all places on my top-100 for LV (although off-strip in Chinatown you'll get 100-150% as good for 25% the price in 10% the ambiance/convenience...)
Checkin guy was very friendly (not quite as good as Caesar's Diamond desk people, but good). Didn't know if there was a way to status-match TR Diamond to Code (although I don't really care that much). Didn't mention resort fee or platinum amenity or platinum alternative to amenity.
The neighborhood is kind of sketchtastic. Monorail is close, and Stratosphere, but nothing else. Going northeast of here on foot is...unwise. Don't stay here unless you plan to remain on-property or have a car, or just want to take the monorail to/from the strip. That said, especially once the W (colocated) opens, spending an entire trip here without leaving would be fine.
Since I have a car, I'd probably stay here in preference to other SPG options, although a great room at Caesar's/Wynn/Encore/Cosmo/etc. for <$100 is preferable. Definitely adding it to my to-check list. Cat 5 isn't worth redemption, though.

I had some spurious minibar charges show up, so went to the front desk. Quickly removed. Apparently I also hadn't received the envelope with goodies on checkin -- 500 points vs breakfast vs a drink at one of the expensive restaurants. I got the points. Also SPG Platinum gets 2 drink vouchers for the cheaper places (lobby monkey bar, coffee shop).
The only annoying thing is you can't have both code loyalty and SPG on your account.
Doing a $50 lunch at the northwoods cafe (also Chinese food) before checking out, to find out definitively if it is $50/day. If so this is an amazing deal.

I only spent $35 at lunch. Looks like I need to grab $15 somewhere plus my two free drinks at one of the bars before I go.

In Vegas, 99 percent of the time, gratuities are not covered by promotion dollar value. There could be exceptions, such as when a casino hosts waives all charges.

Vegas is one of those places where going spg and trying to stay loyal for the benefits is hard IMO. With so many good options for cheap prices the SLS will be a nice option compared to the Westin, but certainly not a no brainer by any means. With the W coming if they try and keep their rates high I'll stay away and just pass the points when i'm in Vegas for better options.

Don't forget you do get SPG points for any spend while staying at Total Rewards (Caesars, Harrahs, etc.) properties. Not sure how it works towards SPG status but you certainly get points for spend. Just have to link your TR and SPG accounts together.

I have TR Diamond via FoundersCard (I'm in at $149/yr; diamond gets me $100 in meals, no resort fees, valet when full, upgrades, etc so it is worth it alone as I do one 10 day conference in Caesars per year and a bunch of 4 day stays for frontsight)
SLS and the four points (on points) definitely have a place, though!
I'd prefer SLS to any CET property except Palace, Augustus, Octavius, nobu, or villas at Caesars for the same price, unless I needed mid strip location. I think Cosmo/MO/Vdarra/Aria have both beat (along with Four Seasons), but I don't have any great loyalty or discounts at those.

I only stayed in Lux Tower, and liked it. I think Lux is where they send SPG Plat now. There was some construction, and a weird winding passage to get to the elevators right now, but the only time I heard any construction noise was in the ground floor elevator lobby (absurdly loud, like a concrete cutter or something). My room was silent. I suspect they are only booking people into upper floors or floors away from the construction noise.
A fun platinum/SPG perk would be a tour of some of the construction area every few days (obviously escorted and scheduled around the actual work).

FYI they now have another rate which includes "$25 per night F&B" (the 72h Sale, for $63). If you're actually going to use the credit, $50 per *day* (i.e. N+1, and sometimes when N=1 that is double number of double amount) seems worth it for the +$15 rate. It's $25 for something with similar change policies though ($89/night).
