Just back from a four night stay in early October 2012, we didn't see any remaining direct damage.

Refurbishment continues, thankfully temporary front desk has moved from the 2nd floor bar back to the reception area.

Hotel was legitimately 100 percent occupied with several conferences. I received a King on the 45th floor with a very nice view of the river. FD was very friendly and efficient, and recognized Plat without any prompting.

Room had recently been refurbed, new furniture, bed, desk, TV stand with a 42” Flat Screen, and soft goods. Bathroom had new tile, and marble vanity, but retained the old bath tub/shower which is functional but will look REALLY old in a few years. Colors are dark cherry and browns, but the room was adequately lit.

I did hear others complaining about non refurbed rooms on lower floors, FD staff indicates that all guest rooms are to be refurbed by year end, and all refurbishments completed by end of February 2014.

A couple of bottles of water were provided and replenished daily. Club was newly refurbished and opened up on the day of our arrival. Very spacious seating, perhaps 40 comfortably with great views, I’d guess it takes up the footprint of four standard rooms. Espresso machine, power bars, fruit, nut mix, and a very nice selection of sodas and waters available around the clock. Breakfast offering was perhaps the best of any domestic Sheraton I have seen: two hot entrees (ham and egg croissants and bacon one day), smoked fish, fruit, cereals, pastries, oatmeal and bottled juices. I wasn’t on property in the evenings so I can’t speak to that offering.

Property is about six blocks from Bourbon St, some in our group stayed at the Four Points which is in the middle on Bourbon. Some in our party stayed there and complained bitterly about noise. If you are into the Bourbon St scene the Four Points location can’t be beat, but I cannot imagine four nights there.

FYI, as of this writing in October of 2012 fixed cost Taxi from the airport is $33. Shared shuttles are cheaper but some indicated it took almost ninety minutes to reach the Sheraton, cab ride averages 30 minutes.

Excellent and new club made an otherwise ordinary Sheraton stay into a very nice visit. We would stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and thought the Platinum recognition was fantastic.

I was upgraded to an executive suite which was really spacious, nicely furnished, and had a fantastic view down Canal Street towards the River. The hotel also sent up an additional welcome gift of a strawberry cupcake with chocolate covered strawberries in addition to the Plat welcome points.

As others have mentioned, I really enjoyed the Club lounge -- I did not use it for breakfast or in evenings, but stopped by several times for beverages. There was a great selection of sodas, juices, and waters available 24 hours a day. There were occasionally cookies, granola bars, fruit, and other small items available throughout the day. It was a really nice Club lounge

I really enjoyed this Sheraton and was very impressed by it. The only downsides were some small maintenance issues in the room (light bulb burnt out, handle kept falling off sink) and very noisy guests over the weekend (luckily, I was spared from most of this being in a suite on the corner -- my room didn't border anyone else's) though I was awoken a couple of times by people running through the hallways, banging doors, etc.

Overall, I really appreciated the Plat recognition, the upgrade was pivotal given the poorly behaved guests, and I would return to this hotel in the future

This is good to know...i'm booked in this hotel for three nights this upcoming weekend...i'm not holding my breath on an upgrade as the hotel has been sold out on SPG for a good month now. But since I'm getting there early on Friday, I may have to inquire at the front desk.

Edit: Now rooms are showing available...maybe a group canceled. Oh well, here's hoping for that suite.

I just got back from a 2-night stay this past weekend at this property, and it was light-years better than my stay a year ago. Normally I stay at the Westin down the street, but I got a great discounted rate, and I decided to give the Sheraton a go again.

The platinum reception was great, and this time I got one of their executive suites on a renovated floor, and it was just great! The new rooms/floors are well furnished, bright, anc clean. It's a far cry from the beaten-up older floors that are still around on some of the lower levels.

I stopped by the club lounge briefly to pick up a cup of coffee in the afternoon, but I opted to skip breakfast for the excellent Ruby Slipper across the street on the back side of the hotel. It's definitely a great lounge, though!

I won't hesitate to stay here again.

I'll echo the thoughts on well furnished and clean... though there was the lovely bit of slamming doors CONSTANTLY on our floor... why not install the easy close mechanisms when they did the renovation.

Also, the blinds... not my favorite. HOWEVER if you point them up, it does a much better job keeping the light out. Not "blackout" by any stretch but not bad either.

The lounge was very well re-done and the evening spread is nice. However, they are apparently reevaluating to go away from more "dinner style" (they had gumbo one night I was there) to more hors d'oeuvres as people were eating there too much during the week...

has anyone tried using their suite night certificates here????

i just completed a booking & it says snas can't be used here....the reasons it gives me are:

The rate booked is a non-eligible SPG rate.

it was booked on spg.com so its definitely an eligible rate....

The member does not have sufficient Suite Night Awards in the account for the duration of the stay.

doesn't apply to me as i have more suite nights in my account than the number of days i'm staying here....

Suite Night Awards can’t be applied online to stays with more than one room. Please call us to use your Awards.

have only booked one room so this is not a problem....

The number of people in a reservation party exceeds the capacity of any upgrade room options.

reservation is for 2 people....

Suite Night Awards can’t be applied after 3 p.m. local hotel time the day before arrival.

my stay is in june....

Suite Night Awards can’t be applied to a reservation that is already booked with an upgrade option for those dates.

booked a traditional room & there are a number of different suites available for sale on my stay dates....

The hotel isn’t configured for Suite Night Awards. Potential reasons include, but are not limited to, hotels that don’t have upgraded room types and all-suite hotels.

this property does have upgraded room types & is not an all-suite hotel....

This property does participate in SNA's; however, if the suite type attached to the SNA rate plan is not available for the duration of your stay, you won't be able to apply SNA's to the reservation.

This is the standard suite at this property.

Those would not.

Based upon what you've reported and some other similar reports with regard to this property that I've unburied in my email inbox, I think there is a technical issue preventing the attachment of SNA's there. I've opened a ticket with SPG Tech on it. If I hear back on that, I'll be glad to update the thread.

so i asked my ambassador to help out but got a reply from another ambassador informing me that my regular ambassador is not available at the moment....she further said that she tried to attach the suite night to my reservation but got the same message i got, that suite nights cannot be used for this reservation....

lurkers, is there something else i can do because executive suites are still available for my stay date & according to mbaker0936, he was able to use a suite night for that particular suite type on the same day as my stay as well....
