Sheraton New Orleans [Master Thread]

I have an upcoming conference in May at the Sheraton New Orleans. The online booking service gives me a choice of 2 room types for the same price: a Traditional non-smoking w/French Quarter view, newly renovated, dataport, which says it is a "beautifully appointed room with city views, floors 9-41, sq ft. 345" or a Deluxe river view room, "renovated room with modern furnishings, floors 11-41" same sq footage.

Has anyone stayed there recently? Is there any difference in the quality/amenities between these 2 room types?

Thanks for your help!

I don't think that there is a significant difference other than the view. Personally, I prefer the river view and the higher floors.

If you can snag a junior executive suite, they are great. This is what most platinums get as an upgrade.

Anything better than a junior executive suite gets to be cost prohibitive, IMHO.

The Sheraton New Orleans is one of my favorite hotels. Most of the rooms are the same setup, its just a matter of which direction you face. The river view is great, especially from the higher floors (as mentioned before).

The Junior Executive Suites are great xx30 (I believe) in the corner and on the higher floors look directly down Canal Street to the river.

Agree with both posters above about the river views being especially nice.

I stayed there in January and had reserved one of those "high floor river view" rooms and would definitely choose a room with a similar view during my next stay at that hotel. ;)

Thanks for all the replies! Looks like the river view is the way to go. Unfortunately, I don't think my company will spring for the Jr. Executive Suite, so I'll take my chances with a "Deluxe" room (whatever that is).

Thanks to all for your help!

Sheraton New Orleans

Well being a New Orleans girl I rarely actually stay at this hotel. If I check into a hotel for the weekend at home 9 times out of 10 it is in the W-French Quarter.

Last weekend was Jazz Fest and we decided on a whim while drinking beers at Jaegers that we wanted to hit Harrah's for the night so we called up SPG at 6PM on a Friday night looking for any rooms in the city. Shockingly enough we were able to snag a room at the Sheraton (both W's were sold out) for my low corporate rate of $129.

We made it downtown about 8PM and the front desk staff was very apologetic about not being able to assign us a suite since they are pre assigned earlier in the day and our ressie wasn't made till a few hours beforehand. We were assigned a nice room on the club floor with a nice river view.

Breakfast in the club lounge on a Saturday morning was hopping, but they had plenty of food out for the large crowd. Many people were up and getting ready to go to the Jazz Fest.

The hotel is a big convention hotel and if the W Hotels aren't your cup of tea I wouldn't hesitate recommending this hotel. All the rooms were recently remodeled and had the sweet sleeper beds.

Edited to Add: It was a very productive weekend at the casinos for us. Not only did we cover our hotel bill for the night we also covered the rest of our vacation to Bali this summer :D

Great Experience

The staff at Sheraton New Orleans took great care of me on Christmas Eve, when United lost my bags and my family was delayed coming in from MSP.

There are times when upgrades, amenities, etc. mean nothing when you have no bags and it's freezing in New Orleans. Sheraton staff provided me toiletries beyond the usual, pointed me in the direction of the only open drug store, extended my stay, followed up with United on my bags, and just gave me great service. (Nice room too!)

I'm glad to see that the above two posters have had similar positive experiences. It isn't the fanciest hotel - but I have found a lot more consistency with this hotel than I have the other SPG properties in New Orleans.

we stay there nearly every JazzFest - good hotel for us and the little ones. Staff is used to handling large crowds and while waits for the concierge and others can be a bit longer during convention/event periods, its not too unbearable. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a better value than most *wood property.

If we are traveling without the kids, its the W New Orleans, with them, its the Sheraton.

Taxi is $28 set fare from the airport to downtown. The shuttles are $14 i think a piece and takes a bit. I'd take a taxi.

Taxi will work for you...

I just booked the shuttle for $25 RT. Since there are two of you, definitely take the taxi.

When are you going? I'll be at the Sheraton this weekend. :)

You also can take the local bus, for $1.60 you can make it to within 5-10 min.walk of the hotel. Or for $5.00 you can get a day-pass for the local bus and streetcar system.

Platinum treatment has always been great for me, corner suite and lounge access.

Casey.
