i have tried this a few times. It ends when the front desk tells me that I am all set but the app disagrees and keeps sending me to the front desk to verify my identity… and I give up.

March 2023 and I am still always being told to go to the front desk. What's the point of mobile key then?

Hilton 90% of the time delivers the key without front desk.
fflier_9999 and KRSW like this.

It was fun the first few times but it's so useless and bothersome.... AND I usually get the mobile key only a few hours after I checked-in.... I don't bother anymore.

Arrived at the Times Square Edition Sunday night with my mobile key and went into the elevator. No dice. Was then advised to use the lower card reader instead of the upper one -- that worked. But it wouldn't open my room door. So back down to the front desk... Ugh. But on the plus side, I used this opportunity to switch to a different room from the one they pre-assigned to me.

Still batting zero for mobile key. I still prefer physical keys as there's less to go wrong.

At the W Nashville the mobile key never worked, not once. Really disappointing.

Somehow I found that my MobileKey work quite reliably for the hotels that I frequently stay.
They still need me to present ID and payment card on the reception though as I believe it was part of government regulations.

Yes, you are correct about that. The app advertised my key was ready so I went straight to my room when I got to the hotel and the key didnt work. When I went down to reception they said they need to activate the mobile key which I needed to present ID and CC for them to do.
Even after they said they activated it still didn't work so I'm not really sure what happened.
