Mobile Key General Discussion Thread

Looking in the Marriott app on my phone I see a "Mobile Key" menu option. Any idea what this is?

If you're at a participating hotel that has "mobile keys", you can online check in and then download the mobile key and proceed directly to your room. The key is stored on your phone and uses BT or NFC to authenticate and unlock your room and any other door that you have access to such as a conference room or the gym.

"So far, customers can book their stays and get a notification via their iOS, Android and Windows phone (and now also through an Apple Watch app) when their room is ready, but hopefully in the fourth quarter of this year the app will also let customers in 20 hotels bypass the front desk entirely. Instead of checking in and getting their keys, guests can get a code that will allow them to unlock their room using the bluetooth radio chips inside their phones."

Google. Came up in an article. Sounds like it's in a limited trial - not too many hotels & might go wider in 2016.

Cheers. Sharon

Is there a master thread here on FT that will list all the properties that introduce Mobile Key? Something similar to the Concierge Lounge thread?

Are there any other than the one in Baltimore listed in the article? I would love it if I could use my phone(one less card to hold on to).

Since it's just in the trial stage this quarter w/ 20 properties, the answer is no & not worth doing a sticky IMO.

However, there's nothing that says you can't create a list in this thread or a wiki if you're wiki-enabled.

Cheers. Sharon

If a hotel has a mobile key app, would that mobile key work for me to get into the M lounge?

I was just at the Chicago Mag Mile property. Mobile key worked fine for my room and fitness center. For the M Lounge, the lock switched to green but the door wouldn't open. Had to wait til someone exited.

I used the mobile key at the JW Marriott - Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. It worked fine in the elevator and to open my room but didn't give me access to the Executive Lounge. I went to the front desk to inquire, they supposedly added access but then the mobile key stopped working altogether. Went back to the front desk and got a new physical key which opened everything and had lounge access as well. So I would say it is a nice feature but needs some more refinement.

I used it at the Georgetown Washington Marriott about two weeks ago. No issues with lounge access.

Tried to use it multiple times at the JW Marriott Minneapolis (Mall of America) with a Galaxy S8 - no dice anywhere. Coworker uses an iPhone X - tells me the mobile key works for them.
