Haha, it wasn't IC swooping in as much as the developers not wanting to build out for the higher room reqts for a StR, not to mention the new StR properties typically aren't as big as what will be the IC.

I suspect that Los Angeles getting a StR will be a priority for the luxury portfolio team for the combined Marriott-Starwood company. Downtown already has a Ritz Carlton, though, and its planned expansion has been put on hold/stopped by AEG. So another Ritz Carlton or St Regis would be more than appropriate in Los Angeles...perhaps in Century City or along the Sunset strip or Westside.

St. Regis coming to Bermuda in 2019

Looks like Bermuda's St. George will be getting a new St. Regis:

Weird that they would choose St. George in Bermuda. It's kind of far from everything and rather run down these days IMHO. That's probably why the Club Med there died off. But maybe that's why the locals want a big investment. And it will be a huge investment because costs there are super high. I hope it works out, but I would not at all be surprised to see the target date slip and slip and slip...

Supposedly it was to open in 2016 but it was still flat ground back then in 2013. I wonder how is it now. Hopefully construction is already underway. If not, it might be delayed till 2020.

Some updates on the Bermuda property:

Objections Filed: http://www.royalgazette.com/news/art...ainst-st-regis

The full environmental report also has some more details about the property: http://www.planning.gov.bm/documents...StRegisApp.pdf

Highlights:

"The proposal encompasses:
A 5 Star hotel, with a reception/lobby, 3 meal restaurant, bar & wine cellar, pool bar & grill, spa & gym; 122 hotel rooms, a casino, a ballroom & function terrace. As well as 98 branded condominiums (arranged across 7 Residences), estate lots for future development, and the refurbishment of an 18-hole golf course. Guest rooms will vary in size ranging from 600 sq. ft. up to 3000 sq. ft. The hotel reception will be located centrally in the complex of buildings with main facilities such as bars/restaurants, function rooms and back of house facilities arranged to the south and hotel accommodation to the north.

The hotel buildings containing amenities and facilities will be mostly 2 to 4 story’s in height, while the hotel accommodation wing will be arranged across a 4 to 5 story building on the northern end of the site. The three-meal restaurant will provide seating for approximately 75 persons while a bar and related facilities will have a total of 32 seats. In addition, a pool grill will be located on the deck/terrace area overlooking the beach & pool. There will also be a spa carefully integrated into the existing historic fabric forming Fort Albert. Back of house facilities for the hotel will be integrated into the hotel complex of buildings and will include laundry, trash collection, MEP facilities, and a service yard."
Site plan:

Standard room floorplan:

Also seems that there was going to be a Park Hyatt but that fell through.

Looks like St. Regis Hong Kong coming!

Press release:

http://en.crc.com.cn/newsroom/Busine...629_392742.htm

And photos of the site with mapped location:

It's a building under construction opposite the Renaissance Harbour View, which is connected to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, where the Grand Hyatt also is.

The would-be building's address is 26 Harbour Road, where a matrix of foot-bridge connects HKCEE/Wan Chai Ferry Pier and Wan Chai MTR station.

It would be fairly connected and convenient for conferences attendees and leisure travellers to the (future) HKCEE MTR station.

This is it's map location and line of sight from construction site.

Agreed. At 900 rooms, I think that's WAY too big for StR. Let the big box guys like InterCon have it.

I think for LA, StR would be perfection with a Beverly Hills location. Somewhere in the Golden Triangle, but space is non-existent these days. Do you remember when there was a StR Century City for a split second?

I was so looking forward to the BA project. It was so modern and fresh and in a really cool up-and-coming location. It felt like a real effort by the brand to push themselves in a young, fresh, unexpected direction the way they did with Bal Harbour, San Fran, Mexico City, and now Langkawi and Madlives.

I remember and it was there nearly two years as I recall. That was back before Starwood had property categories like today and free night awards could be used at any Starwood property worldwide. No restrictions. I used many of them at the Century City StR.

I stayed several times at the StR Los Angeles/Century City.

It's too bad that the owners of the new Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills opted for that flag instead of St Regis. But it goes to show that Los Angeles is in a major hotel boom, especially on the luxury front. http://www.cntraveler.com/story/the-...g-reservations

fall 2000 through jan 2005 > http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...er-thread.html
interesting re above hotel-online.com/archive/archive-6644
another st regis hotel within hotel > http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...rt-v-good.html
current st regis dubai similarly combined with other hotels

planned st regis palm dubai (289 rooms) will have swimming pool 210m high, surpassing 191m high marina bay sands (2,561 rooms) swimming pool. unfortunately like marina bay sands there is a public viewing deck above pool... and 500 condos, with st regis being on the lowest floors, as is typical for such properties. regardless, incredible pool planned.

Seattle has something like 4500 hotel rooms currently under construction. There is a fair amount of Starwood in Seattle (W, Sheraton, Westin, 4Points,) but obviously some Starwood flags not currently represented. St Regis, Le Meridien, Element. Would be great to see some of those show up as the new buildings going up get flagged. To date, have not seen affiliations for any of the properties under construction announced, other than an SLS hotel. No idea if it will be associated with Starwood or not.

Actually, in Europe Marriott has plans to expand all of its segments, including he luxury segment. We should expect to see more StR (and RC) signings in the coming years as appropriate properties become available and/or are developed. We likely will see even more W expansion, though, if I had to guess.
