The upgrade fee did count for points and for ambassador level spend for me. There has been a bit mixed reporting on that topic,, but I think most reports have been same experience as mine.

Not sure if already posted, but it might be a good addition to the wiki: I received a link to the e-brochure ahead of my stay next month. Might be worth perusing for those who want some more reading material to hold them over until the trip

Can someone confirm how they accommodated late departure on the day of checkout? I’m planning on booking an 11PM flight out. I thought I read that they will let you stay in a beach villa in the meantime (might be confused with Bora Bora) and hold your luggage but also remembered reading that you can stay in the St Regis airport check in lounge. Thanks.

We were on the last sea plane out at 3:30pm. We got to keep our room until we left.

In Male, we were taken to the STR lounge until about 2hrs before our flight (8pm) and then driven over to the terminal and escorted to the checkin counter.

We had drinks and snacks etc.. in the lounge while we waited.

I have a stay coming up in September and just wanted to get some insight/confirmation about the breakfast offering for Platinum members. Ever since the merger the offerings at non lounge marriotts has decreased and is almost worthless (Dollar amount credit, "continental" breakfast, etc.). For example, the W Punta de Mita, used to offer the full buffet breakfast in their restaurant for platinum members and now they offer a couple of pieces of bread and some juice or coffee but you can pay to "upgrade" to the full buffet which was previously the standard offering for platinum members.

I know that this hotel offers a fantastic breakfast spread currently for Platinum members so my question is has anyone heard of this hotel offering a limited offering for platinum breakfast? Are the breakfast offerings consistent for all platinums that have visited? I would hate for them to make this change right before our visit

Thanks for confirming! I recalled that the Seaplanes don’t fly at night so 330pm makes sense.

They offer a full breakfast to Platinum.

I have yet to encounter many properties that cut breakfast benefits after the merger, though the Marriott Resorts that had to start offering breakfast seems to have been quite creative with what they are offering, and it could seem from your example other resorts have applied same tactics. The dollar amount properties, were chains that did not offer anything at all before.

Update: Sitting in the arrivals lounge now and had paid in advance for the OWV upgrade for 6 nights. They just came and confirmed as appreciation for my Platinum status that they upgraded us to a SOWV for all 6 nights! Even if you are on points they do authorize $500 a night which may not be far off the total when you factor in the transfers. Let me know if anyone has any boots on the ground questions since we will be there in just a bit.

Has anyone done the Local Island Trips or the Jungle Cinema? Per an e-mail from the resort, the local island is Hulhudheli and it really doesnt look like much. Im not sure how enjoyable it would be even for the cheapest option at $90. The Jungle Cinema seems like it could be overkill. Thanks!

Jungle cinema

I believe the jungle cinema is $250 per person. Of course that includes dinner.

Yea it is $500 per couple and it does include dinner but no drinks. I just feel like it could be a let down.

We did the jungle cinema in April, it was a cool experience. We watched Skyfall.

The dinner was really good and more than enough for 2 people. We ordered glasses of wine with each course.

My tips would be - pick the longest movie of the ones you would enjoy, don't start it right away until you get your drinks and don't take breaks between the courses, it takes a bit of time for them to go back and forth to the kitchen already.

We're going later this year and I was curious if anyone had been with a Verizon cell phone. An earlier report noted that the wifi was great and plenty fast for wifi calling, etc. but we're traveling without the kids so I wanted to know if the cell service was good enough to make and receive calls in an emergency if needed.
