This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

There has to be something going on.
I, too, have been trying to book next January or February using points and I get nothing.
I HAVE been able to find availability using standard awards from the middle of March '06 to about the 15th of December (the end of December are blackout dates.)
Any chance Marriott is dropping these hotels?

It is fairly common for them not to load the hi-season availability at the typical window. Sometimes it is because they have not decided on the rates yet, and sometimes it is because the local hotels are processing reservations for return guests first.

A couple of questions as I'll be heading here tomorrow.
Are there reasonably priced places in the area to pick up little things like beverages
etc?
It's my understanding that a lot of transactions in the touristy areas can be made using USD. Does the front desk cash USD AMEX travelers cheques for USD's? Or should I bring it all in cash?
Thanks

Not sure how you define reasonably priced. The hotel shops prices for snacks/drinks are high, the store/shop across the boulevard is moderately priced - and to me the most reasonably option is a public bus ride into downtown for a visit to WalMart.

You will get a better exchange rate if get pesos out of an ATM instead of paying in US dollars. Typically you get 10-1 if you pay someone in dollars and should get a little over 11-1 from your bank. There is an ATM across the street from the JW and a bank a little farther down the road.

I still really don't think anything is going on. I watched these hotels last year-change their rates, change availababilty. It was very unpredictable but in the end I got what I wanted (January stay). I know they have a lot of conventions and think they load and reload. Be patient. You can always call the hotel too-they are very nice.

Just got back from a great stay there....but one thing confused me. 1721 MX peso in incidental spend (all restaurants/gift store) = approx $160 US = 971 Marriott reward points??? I thought it was 10pts/USD Am I missing something here?

You are right, and you will find this happen much too often with international stays. You need to follow up to get the right number of points credited. I have no idea how/why their system can't seem to handle currency conversion.

Availibilty is starting to show up for January and February for '08
However, the new change is that the Club 91 level no longer seems available with Standard awards - just for Stay Anytime awards (with the requisite cash or points upgrade)
That is disappointing. I was hoping to stay in the Club 91 by paying the upgrade fee.
I already have a Standard Award (Cat 6 for 7 nights) Can I upgrade that to a Stay Anytime Award?

There is something about the calculation MR does and it is not just the exchange rate. I was way underrewarded points based on my bill. It took 2 calls and 2 faxes and whole lot of patience to get my points from my stay in January. But to their credit, it did get fixed. My best advice is when you fax in your bill give a call back number on the cover sheet (not that they did) and follow up with the call center.

Has anyone stayed at the J.W. Marriott Cancun?
Anyone stayed at the J.W. Cancun? I'm trying to book a hotel room using a 087 Marriott certificate. It seems much cheaper to stay at the Marriott CasaMagna next door.
