Pictures of Cancun Marriotts since Wilma

www.entertainment-plus.net has pictures and video taken since the hurricane of all the hotels in Cancun. The Marriott Casa Magna has damage to the sea walls and a lot of the beach is gone. But, the site said that the beaches are slowly coming back. This site has a lot of great information if you are planning a trip to Cancun and are trying to find out what the conditions are there.

I have thoroughfully checked that site (all movie clips and pics) among others, got information at many forums devoted to Cancun and Playa but still was difficult to get a clear picture about the situation at the Marriotts until a friend of mine visited them. The beach is gone and there is some severe damage to the pool area so I decided to cancel my January bookings. At least 5 miles of beach in the middle of the hotel zone is affected and will take weeks to recover by bringing back the sand that accumulated in banks in front of Isla Mujeres. I regret that reliable information has been filtered and so much effort is needed to find out which is the real situation at each property.

Marriott has told me they will be open after December 31 but their website still does not take reservations clear in to April. On my last call to Marriott they told me that I should have a Plan B. From looking at the pictures of the sea wall damage I wonder if it will be open very soon.

The Marriott website now shows both Cancun properties closed down until the end of January 2006. From what I hear that date may also shift.

Yes, Marriott has just cancelled my January stay at the JW Cancun. Anyway, my latest findings show that there is virtually no beach left. My advice is to book an all-inclusive in the Akumal area which was slightly affected by the hurricane specially if you're tied up with your flights. By the way, your kids will enjoy much more there than at Cancun.

Marriott St Kitts

The Marriott St Kitts shows no availability for Feb 18-25. I have a stay scheduled at JW Marriott Cancun that week through Priceline--hope they're open by then.

Cancun update

Since my Feb 18-25 stay at the JW Marriott is a Priceline stay I've done some investigating. Priceline travel services rep called Marriott corporate this week and they told him that they MAY be open by February 1st--NO GUARANTEE--they agreed to refund my my hotel cost--OR--wait until closer to the date and decide then. I have airfare changes to consider and trying to book another property. My wife isn't too keen about Aruba/Curacao because of the Holloway case and subsequent report on Dr. Phil show---frankly I'm leaning toward Curacao--but need to keep peace in the household. If you have trip planned from March on I'm thinking they should be open by then--or at least in April. Good luck to all--I have decisions to make

Change your plans. Why wait and agonize? I don't think it's going to be ready.

By the way go to Hawaii, nothing better.

Can someone explain this to me? Seems to me like most places have unsolved murders, just none that have gotten so much national pub. Seems stupid to boycott.

If you want to see pictures and videos of the Hurricane Wilma destruction go to http://www.entertainment-plus.net/index.cfm. Looks like the beaches are gone in front of the Casamagna and the JW. Seawall appears to be collapsed at the Casamagna. Brandt does an excellent job keeping people informed about Cancun.

I was there last May (05) and my favorite beach chair location appears to be about 30 yards in the water.

We were suppose to go to Camcun 10/31 to 11/08, but transfered to Puerto Vallarta Casamagna. Lovely hotel, great service but the beach does not compare to what use to be in Cancun. Just a word of caution in PV Casamagna, Check your bills! I was charged for an included breakfast, did not receive a $100 resort credit and the front desk does not know the difference between a 100 Premium Pound and 100 Dollar Bonus Buck. I received credit for $400 USD after presenting 4 100 Premium Pounds. I'm still fighting with them over this.

We have been to most Marriott's in the Carribbean and prefer Curacao. We enjoyed St.Kitts, Cayman's, Puerto Rico and Aruba, but the beach and the amenities of Curacao are great. It is a small resortish feel hotel not a big monolith like some. Getting around is easy. Renting a car and driving is fun though you do not need to rent a car. I snorkeled every day somtimes just from the beach in front of the hotel and yes the dive shop is great. It is a tough decision and I do agree with another poster that the Puerta Vallarta Marriott is a wonderful hotel ,but the beach is rocky and not up to par. Further north or south of the hotel the beach is much better.

Marriott cancelled my January stay and the operator told me that new reopening day is May 1st. It looks like it will take some time until the government can recover the beach in the hotel zone.

Cancun Marriott's re-opening info

In an e-mail from Marriott

Dear Guest:

As you are aware, definitive opening dates for our Cancun Hotels were pending a comprehensive engineering and structural evaluation. Engineering and security teams have conducted a full scale evaluation of both hotels and we are pleased to announce that this process is now complete. At this time, we expect to reopen the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa on May 1, 2006 and the CasaMagna Marriott Cancun Resort on June 1, 2006.

JW Marriott Cancun, Concierge Lounge?

We have a reward stay there this summer. Just wondering if this hotel has a concierge lounge so we can get breakfast there for free ?
