Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.
Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.
FAQ
Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.
Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.
Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.
Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.
Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.
Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.
Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.
Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.
Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

Spoke to Customer Service after being on hold for 25 min
Spoke to a Melissa who said that their systems are having issues and that they got an email about platinum members that have not been given Plat Premier Status, she said that they are aware and working on it...no ETA for a fix. Also I verified with her that the new Gold Status does not grant Lounge Access. Also she said that if you were to achieve legacy lifetime gold status by the end of the year, you would get platinum for life. Let’s see how real that is as I’ll be hitting that milestone in a few months.

I was on the phone (holding mostly) for over 90 minutes earlier today. I was told Plat via status challenge would not be Plat Prem, only those that fullfil the stayed nights criteria will.
After inquiring why would they offer me a challenge in June if that was the case as I didn’t receive any benefits from completing the challenge I was asked to hold ”just a second”. After +30mins of holding they just hung up. Currently fairly dissatisfied with Marriott...

Well that's rather a pollyana-ish conclusion. My takeaway is that Marriott CSRs continue to give out totally contradictory information with equal confidence on either side.
What a complete and total fiasco this is. While I would certainly like to think all will be well, Marriott's given us no objective reason for such faith, and I'm increasingly of the opinion that most of these errors will never be fixed.

I will switch to Hilton if Marriott does not honor PP to those who completed the challenge.
I made some unnecessary stays to complete the challenge.

I would have been far better off to just get the Chase Ritz Card with 50% less the cost (or even more if one counts the $200 airline credit to offset the $450 AF), plus 3 Club Level certs, plus 2 FNs if completing the minimum spend... versus giving Marriott the revenue stays that were solely for the Challenge.
We the customers act on good faith (blindly and naively, based on our past experiences), unfortunately is met with the "New" management who has a completely different philosophy as the "Old" Marriott as we know it.
We still have lots of points in our accounts, so we would use them up at the best value as we could find. However on any pay stay we would be free agent from now on, and will no longer waste our money to become Marriott elites.

One of the things that makes this so aggravating is Marriott knows many of us will stay no matter how poorly this is handled. Same as Comcast or Verizon.

I like the option Ollila gives of suing either in your own state, or in Maryland, where Marriott is HQ’d. I’d prolly vote for your own state, since they probably get favorable local treatment in MD.

All, please read this blog article
https://loyaltylobby.com/2018/08/23/...eated-me-john/
Blogger has forwarded the reader's complaint to Marriott which of course has not replied, yet. Let's see if the blogger would ever get a reply.
Another blogger also asked Marriott a slew of questions on the Travel Package fiasco 2 days ago. He has not received a word from his contacts at Marriott yet.

I sent an email two days ago (I know it's unlikely they will reply me right away, and more likely they will ignore my message). Asked them about their promise that I will remain PP till Jan (or Feb) 2020 once I completed platinum status challenge. Also, my SPG statement points from 2 weeks ago haven't been deposited in Marriott account either.
Def will shift my spending to Hilton or just stay at random hotel that fit my budget and schedule via OTA from now on.

I was in the same boat as most of you, having completed a Platinum status challenge in July but not receiving PP after the merge.
Well earlier today I logged in and noticed that my account status was finally adjusted to PP, so hopefully that gives the rest of you some hope.
I did upload a screenshot onto imgur, but unfortunately I can't link it since I'm currently under 5 posts...
They must be doing this in batches, so I'd give it a bit more time if your status hasn't been updated yet. No more need to write to the AG
