Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

Going to pull the trigger on this on Monday. I'm assuming I have to do the challenge and not taste of since I wasn't targeted? Also do prepaid rates count?

Of course prepaid rates count. Why wouldn't they?

For anyone who was thinking about doing a Plat challenge, now is the time to do it. If you qualify, you get Plat through end of 2019 which means you will get the 4 guaranteed suite night awards! Game changer!!!

Marriott Platinum challenge for the new rule?

Just wondering what will happen Marriott Platinum challenge for the new rule?

I finish the Marriott Platinum challenge in 02/2018, under the old rule should be good till 02/2020....now looks like under new rule, in order to qualify Platinum in 2019, before 01/01/2019 I need finish either 25 stays in SPG, or 50 nights in SPG/Marriott ? (if I get new CC will be 35 nights then)

I did the MR platinum challenge successfully the first 1/2 of 2017 which allowed me to enter into Platinum back then for both MR and SPG.

Does anyone know how the new announcement affects me and ongoing status in 2018 across all programs? I am not sure at all how many stays/nights I will end up with this year due to sproadic travel plans.

There seems to be a lot of confusion with all of this consolidation.

It should be valid thru Feb 2020, or are there any options?

Remaining question is whether these Platinums are matched to Platinum Premier or kept as a basic Platinum from 2019. My Platinum is also via this challenge.

I have the same question, I have recently taken and achieved platinum challenge. Under the old program, I will maintain platinum elite until Jan 2020. But under the new policy, will I have platinum or platinum premier until Jan 2020?

That's the same for me.
I will finish my Plat challenge in mid May and become Plat Marriott till 2020 (already confirmed by CSR).
This earned Platinum level will reverse into Plat Premier in August? In fact, with the challenge you earn the status, it is not just a match...
Hope so!

The website says if you achieve platinum in old program before August, you will become platinum premier for new program, so I believe we will become platinum after August. But for the status after Jan 2019 until Jan 2020, I am really not sure. Also, the old MR program downgrades you by one level if you did not meet the requirement of maintain your previous level regardless of your stay/night in that year. Dont know if the new program will maintain this or use SPG policy, downgrade you to the level which depends on your previous year stay/night.

I would be surprised if those (like me) who have used the challenge and have Platinum through January 2020 will only hold onto it into 2019 when the program changes this August. I don't see it as being any different to a 'vanilla' Platinum who has already earned their status through stays in 2018 and has that status until January 2020.

I was due to sign up for this promo yesterday, the challenge period would have taken me to 7/31.

I am now considering holding out on starting this promo until May 1st to cover up until August 30th, I would like want confirmation if I get Platinum Premier prior to August qualificaion or only or also post August too

I'm currently Marriott Gold by way of SPG Gold through the Amex Platinum. Is the cheapest route to executive lounge benefits achieved by going for the Marriott Gold challenge or the Marriott Platinum challenge? Is it even possible to go for the Gold Challenge if my current status is Gold (albeit fake Gold since it's through credit card, not through hotel nights).

old Marriott Gold --> new Marriott Platinum
old Marriott Platinum --> new Marriott Platinum Premiere

I have a similar question, I'm currently SPG Plat matched to Marriott Plat - is it still possible to do a Marriott challenge to earn 'real' Marriott Plat and therefore presumably become Platinum Premier in the new scheme rather than just Platinum?

The Status Challenge Option is still active....I was considering a start in May rather than April but I believe if you get Platinum status before August you wil be Platinum Premier In August - Is that assumption correct?

Also is the effective date 1st August or end of August (30th)?
