I wouldn't linger for the wines though. Not exactly top of the range and my nose started running after a couple of sips of that Sav Blanc. There is Cascade and other imported beers in the fridge.

Hot and cold offerings

Not exactly top shelf liquor and wine

I really enjoyed the Melbourne Marriott - they really focused on comfort and friendliness here. Here are my pros, cons, and photos:

Pros:
  • Upgraded to a Corner Larger Suite around the evening or morning before arrival
  • The suite had comfortable furniture - including the couch and leather desk chairs
  • The bed was absolutely fantastic - really plush mattress, plush pillows, and plush covers
  • Shower pressure was fantastic and strong - it could get really hot but was able to be adjusted
  • A really delicious box of chocolate-covered salted caramel popcorn was waiting for me in the room - love a dessert welcome gift
  • Breakfast is only in the restaurant (no lounge breakfast) - quite tasty
    • Good made-to-order omelets
    • Tasty barista coffees
    • Yummy "potato gems"
    • Waffles were pretty good
  • Sparkling wine served at check-in - seems bougie though I had a few sips
  • Staff was quite friendly as expected in Australia
Neutral:
  • M Club does have evening service, but there weren't any desserts
Cons:
  • Not much
Overall, I would definitely return.

EE, as the others have said, thank you for your wonderful reviews and pictures.

As someone who loves breakfast buffets, were the Marriott and W both full buffets? I want bacon every morning on holiday.

And if you return to Melbourne, where would you stay on your next visit? I'm having trouble deciding between the Marriott, W, Westin and Sheraton. I've eliminated the new Ritz. This would be my first visit to Melbourne.

Thanks!

The Marriott was a full buffet, and the W was a continental buffet with an a la carte menu for hot dishes. You'll find bacon at both, I'm sure.

I would say that you'll probably be happy at the Marriott, Le Meridien, Sheraton, or W. The W and LM are modern, and the Marriott and Sheraton are traditional. I would say that you should pick on price - if one of those is lower than the others, then pick that one. The W is probably worth a slight price premium, but my opinion is skewed as I was upgraded to a WOW Suite.

Stayed end March 2025. Upgraded to a suite the day prior with both a midday checkin and late checkout. A free bottle of wine at check-in and very friendly staff. Also a great location - pretty much walking distance to anywhere in the CBD.
On the negative side, the lounge is mediocre. It's essentially a closed off area in the bar, so somewhat noisy. The hot food was warm and soggy and the beers were low alcohol. An extra $15 pp for restaurant breakfast - but for that, may as well go to one of the many great Melbourne coffee spots.
No compelling reason to return as many Bonvoy options in Melbourne - unless the price was right.

Recent stay-loved it!

Just completed a 5 day stay, club level. Found the property to be first rate, every employee we interacted with was friendly and helpful. Stunning decor throughout, service in club lounge and restaurant /bar was impeccable.

2 oddities, neither diminished the experience;

1) minimal, close to no storage available in room.

2) most lights can only be shut off with master switch, not light by light if that is your preference.

Definitely will book again!

Hi there, I am headed to Melbourne next week, and I really need an early checkin after my trip from Canada (arriving around 1000-1030, what time were you able to check in)

Also if anyone has any recent early checkin experience here as a data point I would appreciate it.

Thanks
