Actually I have respect for FBI. I think they have a tough job and anything a citizen can do to make it easier I think they should do. I have no respect for Bank of America who I think may have issued a fake report to try and stop something legal that they consider a pain.
But at 2 other banks today I was told 'Oh no more' seems someone was in before me and dropped $2500 at each

I guess I'm one of the "silent minority/majority" folks who've been using this program the last 6 months. I'm definitely small potatos with only about 6k in coins ordered since Feb and that's just so I can top off my FF account to get a ticket to Brazil in a few months. I found out about this program on "World Hum" and have been lurking since Jan.
However I am unique in that I've never deposited more than $75 to the bank at any one time. I do actually spend a good portion on small items such as tacos, lotto tickets, fortys for me and my homies, car washes, pub crawls, etc. I never give more than 10 dollars in coins to a cashier at once and do find that it goes pretty quick just on those little things. Of course it's sort of impossible to spend all of it on daily expenses so I usually go to a local Indian casino with a coin counter (which has yet to short change me) and do a few hundred at a time there and then grab a bite to eat or put a few bucks into a slot machine and then leave.
To each his own but I do find dropping off a few grand in coins at the bank in one visit somewhat obnoxious. I'm no friend of the bankers but perhaps the problems that many are encountering with their deposits is a sort of karma. I wonder how many new and innovative ways to spend cash would be found if people were forced to have to exchange these coins for actual goods and services.
Of course the irony is that I'm not sure how many of the coins I spend each day are actually getting cirrculated. I have a feeling that many just sit in the extra cash drawer in the company safe since many cashiers are afraid to hand them out as change. So I fear that my attempts to flood my city with dollar coins is all for naught as they probably just wind up at the banks anyway. I suppose time will tell if these coins do have staying power or wind up in a warehouse somewhere.

1 big problem is what you are doing is OK if those places dont take CCs. But why should I pay for say Dunkin Donuts using the coins when they take CCs even Amex? Im hurting myself
Theres very little buying I do where a CC cant be used. I do keep a couple of rolls for these times. But it can a few months for me to go thru $100 in ca$h

Well everyone has their own style. Personally I still feel strange charging something less than 5 dollars, even though society is slowly heading to a fairly cash-free economy, and these new "blink" chips in many cards make it even easier to charge everything.
I just feel a duty that I should try to circulate as many of these coins as I can and that I'm using the program to augement my FF account, not trying to milk this program for everything I can.

so what is everyone's largest order? I just finished dropping off $15K. the bank gave me the big bags and i unrolled them. It probably took about an hour to 90 minutes to unroll everything.

2 minute deposit at Citibank with my first $500. No problem whatsoever.

We already have 193 pages in this thread. If people just submitted a post each time they deposit some coins, we will reach 1,000 pages in no time.
I suggest we all keep the discussion to "value added" items. Just reporting that you deposited XXX dollars in a bank is not, IMHO, value added.

I'm not sure this is much of a breakthrough. The coin counters seem to have a limited capacity, maybe 100 $1 coins. The bank staff will have to come and change the bags constantly if you try to make a meaningful deposit. This is only useful for unloading a few rolls at a time. Of course, that can help make some dent in a backlog of coins.
This may not work for all, but it will work for me not to have deal with suspicious glances from tellers anymore.

I stand corrected. Penny Arcade at TD Bank (nee Commerce Bank) has a very low capacity for dollar coins, but many banks appear to have more accommodating machines. I dumped a couple hundred in a machine at a PNC Bank with no trouble. Actually, that machine sounded like it was eating the coins.

Another option for NYC'ers is to refill your metrocards. All the machines take the dollar coins and I can put in about 50 in less than 2 minutes. Really not a hassle at all and you feel like you're in Vegas!

You can pay with cc for metrocard. Whats a point to usee cc to order coins to pay for metrocard? (unless, you want to feel like in Las Vegas)
