Mine was closed because I accidentally messed up one digit for the parent account SSN.

You know better than that.

Multiple "Parent" accounts. I assume using the same card.

I'll have to dig for the information. But I think someone said with the amount of time and how many accounts, it was close to $125k.

How many accounts, if you recall correctly?

Nine cards. Three parents each with two children and a card for the parent for our allowances. ABC, BCA, CAB if that makes sense. 2k on each card each month. I made it 9 months.

That many.

I've just been using the TD Card to pay off my Citi card, pretty awesome. There's a TD Bank a block from me, and now my $60 a week is my new ATM money (never use cash anyway, but saves a longer walk to Citibank).

Loving this card!

Does the buxx team verify social security# to determine age of the teenager or parent? Some of us don't even have children but I don't want this to be an obstacle. ;)

How're they going to determine age etc if they're not SP'ing your CR? All the information they go by is what you tell them.

From experience and a thorough reading of this thread, it does not appear that ss# are being checked for age. People have succesfully registered parents and relatives for cards. Such use makes sense to me personally as one may have a need to put an elderly parent or relative on a set spending schedule, and a buxx card would be ideal for such things.

Just some info - Barclays recently closed my Arrival account due to "history of usage." Soon after that, they closed another Barclay card I never use. My Arrival CL was 12K. I had the account for 8 months or so. I began spending 10K per month and recently ramped it up to 20K a month. Most of that spending was loading Buxx cards. I made multiple WM BPs per month and never exceeded my CL. According the the Barclays phone rep, the closure occured while the bank conducted a routine review of my account.

I asked the CSR if there was anything I could do to re-open the account. The phone rep said I could re-apply for the card. Pretty funny. I do hope to re-apply sometime in the future. This is a great card. Hate to lose it. I got too greedy. Live and learn.

Any recent USB Buxx sign-ups actually receive their teen cards? Status for my teens still showing as "READY"/funded on the website. I've been waiting for 3 weeks now, trying to hold off calling in.

Great data point, thanks for the info. Had not even considered shut down risk from Barclays. Did you lose points?

rdover1 May 6, 2014 12:21 pm

Sorry for you.

I think I've read elsewhere that Barclays also does occasional soft pulls as part of account review. If you do other MS, that might have been the trigger and little to do with your actual Barclays pattern, which based on your message doesn't look particularly risky, which is what they care about. What you buy is irrelevant to them.

Large # of other cards, credit applications and large credit line total compared to stated income are things they care about.
