why not just xfer funds into the ONE savings? it pays 3.46% now. If you put a few grand, it probably will help your debit acct. Difference between 3.46% and 4.2% at other banks is not enough to get antsy about! And Coastal will probably be happy!!

Apologies if this is a repetitive question. I’m familiar with Walmart, or at least I thought I was (I've done Serve/BB/Discover loads, BP when it was a thing, and MO here and there with split payments). I recently created an account online and generated a barcode for a $495 load. I went to Walmart MoneyCenter and asked them to load the card using the barcode. They asked for a phone number, scanned the barcode, and then requested my ID to enter my info into the system. Is this normal? I thought once the account was set up, all you had to do was give them the barcode and the amount, and it would work. Maybe the lady did something wrong and pulled up the wrong option, but I’m not sure. The load didn’t go through after all of that. Just for context, I was able to get the MO (using a split payment of $500 and $495) and load the Discover card before this transaction.

Why create a bar code? From other DPs, it appears that doing so instigates WM requesting ID including phone number and DL. With the physical card, I can do deposits for One at WM without any of that as long as I don't do split payments.
So now I am wondering if WM or One has some capability of detecting split payments. Since the DP says it could still do a split payment for a MO (although now WM has both his DL and phone #
), that means to me that if you do bar codes for loading One, that bank can detect split deposits and deny it.You can check this the next time you go in to make a deposit. Just bring your card and use it instead of the bar code. Let us know the results.

Did you have the physical card with you?

I dont have the physical card yet (its a new account, and Im waiting for it to be delivered). From the discussions in this thread, I thought once you have an account set up, you can use the barcode generated by the app to deposit cash into your account. I wasnt trying to split the payment when loading the ONE card.
Anyway, Ill wait for the card to arrive.

One Bank is very prickly about activity in their accounts and shutters people quite rapidly when they think that there is "unusual activity" going on.
Just a heads up for your new account holders.

If the former, I don't think there should be any issue with getting a new account.
OTOH, no idea if they shut you down. No reason not to try. All they can do is shut you down again, true??

I have been loading VGCs from Office Depot onto my One debit card with zero issues at my local WMs. I tried to load a MGC from Office Depot onto the One debit at the same location and it was a no-go. "DEBIT IS NOT AVAILABLE APPR. CODE = 01" message printed. Any advice on how to do load MGCs onto One debit card?

The cancel button trick used to work for MOs. I tried it yesterday and it would not display the debit and credit buttons. Only one of the $200 MGCs from Office Depot worked to load my Discover Debit card (did not try to use cancel button trick); all the other $200 MGCs print the same error message "DEBIT NOT AVAILABLE." Also, the One Debit card would not load any of these $200 MGCs from Office Depot. It is interesting that all the $500 MGCs from WM, CVS, etc... load onto the One Debit and Discover Debit cards with zero issues.

I thought that I would update the benefits of One card, since I really like(d) it.
But of course, all things change.
The biggest benefit I saw with this card, besides being the usual demand deposit account, was the high yield savings account (not MM) attached to it. That still exists, although the interest rate had declined to 3.75%, matching the market overall.
You have to either DD $500/mo. into the account or keep a balance of $5K in it to get access to the above benefits.
Unfortunately, the other big benefit was the 3% cash back on WM purchases (less the usual exclusions such as GCs and drugs) and the usual 1% back on other purchases.. Unfortunately, that has drastically changed.
Now, you get 3% back on the first $120 of purchases at WM per month. That means that you can earn only $3.60/month at WM using the 3% benefit or $43.20/year. Big Whoop!!
What is more insulting is that you don't get 1% back after that, but rather 0.1% back or $1 on every $1000 spent.
They claim that one can get higher returns using purchases at their special partners, but currently, there are all of 5 or 6, all useless to me.
Bottom line: What was great is now just a good demand deposit account with a high yield savings account attached to it. I will use the card for the first $120 of WM purchases, and then switch to a regular 2% card after that.
Kinda sad, TBH
Use ta love this account.
(of course you can keep trying to use it as MS vehicle a la Discover but Costal Bank is pretty harsh on such behavior. This can be confirmed by reading this thread from the beginning.)

The $500 MGCs from WM, CVS, etc... work to load One and Discover without the cancel button trick.
