If you fail at a regular register, its better to just tell them to cancel and walk away.
Waiting for a manager to show up is not good for long term business

Tip # 2 for long term business

Quit trying complex transactions - stick to single swipe $500 loads

Do you always do it at MoneyCenter? WM in your area must not be sensitive to GC at all.

Yup. The regular cashiers refuse to load at checkout. There's one store with one cashier I avoid. Other than that, they are more than happy to help/take as many swipes as I ask for.

I tried loading to Discover from Walmart using the BHN Metabank VGCs

I thought $99 was a hard limit but I got $100 to go through

I tried loading to discover with a MCGC from Staples and it didn't work for the $200.

Will non BHN cards load to Discover checking for the full amount?

Do not use MCGC at a Walmart.

Anyone know what instructions to give a rep who doesn't know how to split payment? E.g. want to load $1000 and do it as $500 + $500.

Would someone be so kind as to clarify this point from the wiki?
"7 individual loads per rolling 7 days."
If I load $200 onto my card 3 times (enter my DC and load $200, enter my DC and load $200, enter my DC and load $200) does that count as 3 of my 7 loads for the 7 day period?
Yesterday I tried to load $200 and the machine was spitting out a debit card error message. I don't know if it was the card (I tried 2 different cards), bad machine (this terminal has given me problems before) or too many loads in the 7 day window.
I'm just hoping it's not the actual card itself (Everywhere type)
Thanks

get another discover checking account if you have P2. So you will never face the load limit.

For me its always been:

1. Tell cashier I want to load my card
2. Wait for cashier to enter action code 70
3. Insert my card
3a. choose "Discover Debit" on newer registers (angled card swipes)
4. Enter zip code
5. Tell cashier amount I want to load
6. Cashier enters amount
7. I confirm amount
8. Swipe away

I just got Discover checking and I tried to load a SecureSpend VGC and it didn’t work. The cashier didn’t seem to know what she was doing but it looked like the above. I had tried to use the SS VGC at the Money Center to buy a MO and it didn’t go through. I think the WM in my area have hard cored their machines and now I can’t use SS VGC.

Well that's discouraging to hear. Please report back. Is yours the SecureSpend that comes in black packaging and has $5.95 activation fee?
