Thrilled to learn of this development and thread….

Hello everyone,

I an excited to see this thread and how in-person MS might be starting to become viable once again. I dropped out of the MO MS after WM dried up, and the grind of the 99/single swipe per person.

Yes, prefer debit over MS as well. Have a number of question that are all referenced in part in this thread.

Mind you my methods are probably considered old school and have some updating to do on my own mental models.

Below are questions and/or contributions to years worth of posts..

Thank you in advance for any insights.
Also feel free to DM if there is an idea you want share but not publish openly..

——
SCO
While it is better than seeing a teller, what is the appeal to ‘buying’ gc at WM? I saw references to Amex Gold. Getting the cards elsewhere (staples, cvs, gas stations etc) is clear, but no bonus on buying at WM. I would always get the card elsewhere, go to WM to liquidate.

Was this short lived, buying GC at SCO WM? Lot of chatter as as thread progressing it seems like it has been shutting down? Is this still up and active?

———-
DEBIT
Personal preference has been debit over MO (#401) (especially for the smaller staples cards) yet found debit loads pia and a grind.

There are references of people loading BB at WM, but thought all that that all went to FD now, and WM charged a fee to load BB. (DG another option.) In our area, FD agents insist on cash. Systems allow it, but agents refuse. There are hardly any around, and if you get someone who allows card-to-card it’s a single swipe transaction pp/pd. Crazy slow grind.

Discover checking- have had the account but would load attempts would fail. Thank you for the link to the dedicated thread (reading now.)

GD - I would read the back of these packages, questions now answered soni would call and get off shore support agents reading from screens either unabke or refusing to answer specific questions - so I never purchased. I am attaching photos of a few more recent product offerings .

WM - multiple swipes back? Trend in this area (Philly) has been asking to see/verify form of payment the moment you split tender - shitting down the transaction. Single wipe only or game over - hoping this is changing.

WMBP - member Ben able to add legit billers. Billers show up on list, but never add and no one ever able to help out fix felt looked o was blacklisted from WU bill pay even though it wasn’t a service ever successfully used.

Other - what debit reloadable options do other use? Surely there is a better way?

———-
SIMON
How are Simon’s coding for you? These used to code as Department Store until this summer when the POS changed and coded as “other” - which knocked away any bonus category gains.

————
OTHER
Why switch from debit purchase (using PIN) to CC purchase (bypassing PIN?) isn’t most of this sport predicated on the debit side?

Seems like a stretch to take vgc 200s (no fee) to buy $1k gift cards ($9.88) to then get 2 MO (-$2.00,) so essentially spending a min of say $12.00 for just 1k churn. I would only se trying this if you get stuck with cards and desperate, but not a go to play for CUR points. (post #287/697)

Been followed - yes. Funny part is I’m a small player. Grocery store employee removed badge and followed me into parking lot taking note of vehicle info etc. - SO misguided mind you, as I bought ONE gift card, and one earlier that week - two total. Rarely purchase GC unless there is a promotion of interest. When there is, store only allows one purchase a day. I buy one, maybe a second in the week and that’s it. i was close to pulling around to park and walking to ask.

Employees of WM, FD seem to often make rules up…loads of bias and make up rules. It can be way too easy to trip them up in their made up rules with a few small questions - but they get uncomfortable and only ever lends to unwelcome friction and attention. I get annoyed, though, by the bias lies.

Located in Philadelphia region. Anyone know of places that are not grocery stores that accept plastic for MO? Random stops at convenience stores (local or chains) etc all result in cash only requirement.

CITI - yes, had a gc refused at CVS. Zero MS mind you. Spent an hour on the phone in the store with fraud swearing the situation was fixed, failure after failure. Ever risky gave up - wrote them etc - no response.

I think that what you are discovering is that almost all of these reloadable cards are stuffed full of fees, from monthly charges to indiviual fees on deposits or withdrawals.
On top of the card fee is the merchant fee. This is applied when you want to make a deposit through a merchant portal such as WM or CVS and they add their own fee onto the card's fee schedule.

This explains why so few cards are discussed in this forum. Most are totally inappropriate for MSing activity, and if one searches hard enough, they will probably find a thread about it in the past.

I still purchase them at SCO, but limit has dropped for $5k to $1k plus fees. SCO is better because of the partial payment button. I have some cards that need a certain number of transactions a month to hit bonuses and this is an easy way to knock those out. Oh and AMex cards will get the grocery bonus at WMNM. So WM is still useful but beware of fraudulent cards, they are becoming more and more common.

back around christmas time, i tried to purchase a vanilla vgc from wm. I went to SCO w/ the card, but the transaction didn't go through. the transaction ended and the receipt printed out but it didn't charge for the vgc, it said the load was voided. the cashier said it went through no problem. i was like whatever, she doesn't know what she is talking about as the receipt specifically said i wasn't charged anything and and the transaction was voided. I took the receipt and the card with me and threw it in a drawer.

I just took apart the card today and notice, there is a piece of paper, just the size of the card, on top of the back of the actual card. The packaging doesn't look like it was tampered with, I don't know how they put that one in there as usually there is a strip of tough paper where you rip to open the card and it was untouched. It freaked me out. but like i said i wasn't charged for it so it's all good, just wanted to share and people should look out for this.

I do believe they are now slicing the carriers open. I've discovered a number of these lovelies, and that's about all I can figure out. They then try to secure the card with a hot glue gun with varying success.

Hey spenders, Normally I would do self check out with the VGC up to 1k (2x500)fine, but today got declined. The CSR told me have to checkout at customer service desk, did so and twice got decline again. She told me you can only purchase the gift card with a debit card (never heard it before lol). The last time I purchase vgc was Oct/nov 2023. Was there a change ?

Saw a similar discussion elsewhere in the forums. Seems to be location dependant

Pathward cards

I’ve been out of this for a couple months. I had no trouble liquidating the pathward VGCs at WM into MOs a couple months ago. I found a couple of my old cards that started with 4097 which went through no problem. I’ve now failed twice with a pathward that starts with 5253. Same color scheme of dark and light gold stripes on the front. These new cards giving anyone else issues?

SO you're comparing a VGC to a MCGC? Honestly, not sure where you obtained these But Pathward/Meta/BHN VGCs have always been problematic for me at Walmart MO. Can only do max 4 swipes of $99 each last time I tried this. OTOH, MCGCs have never worked, period.

anybody recently having issue with wally's SS vgc starting with 409758 that does not work on loading or mo at walmart ? i bought one waited for 3 hours and declined both loading to money card or mo as cashier.

I've found that BHN MCGC from Staples work for the full $200, but the same BHN MCGC from ODOM won't work at WM for even $1. Same BIN and everything. Very weird. YMMV.

Yeah mine had a security lock or something. Called secure spend and they are sending me a new card. Supposedly I am supposed to be able to spend at another retailer but it is locked at multiple different retailers
