Also had the same issue with emb, MacBook delivered but emb claims not received. . I suspect they eat the occasional macbook since they can get away with it.
I also have a few friends in the game who ran into the same issue. Given the sample size there’s no way it’s amazon, it’s got to be EMB

Just a PSA and warning to all

I haven't been able to get an order through in year. Guest, different card, paypal, modifying shipping address. At one point many months ago I was able to have someone tell me that I reached some order qty limit. As in number of orders total and needed to set up some kind of buying agreement with sales. Which as many of you know proved futile. Tried again today, sales rep put me on hold a few mins, came back offering to sell me the same laptop. I said no, i need to know why my orders get canceled. He says, oh, i didn't know that. (after i already explained it befrore). Let me look into it. Another hold, comes back saying all this has been taken under consideration etc etc. So I say can I order online now and he says yes. ( I highly doubt it) Only reason I care is for the Amex 10% back offer. Did really nice with that back in 2020. And the Dell 3% rewards. Now with the Biz Plat. I'd at least like to use up the credits. Would be nice for a buying group order but I'll take a personal.

Did they end up checking in all your packages? I just starting out with Pointsmaker and in the beginning they were really fast. Usually check in the same day or next day the last but my most recent order that I shipped to them using their labels has still not been checked in and it’s been days already. Is that normal?

So I didn't know if I should tail on this thread or create a new thread about this. I think the community deserves to know when there is a danger present, and I also would like other people's input as to whether or not this behavior is proper or not.

I signed up with PointsMaker several months ago when I heard they were doing US Mint deals. I have purchased about 16 coins/sets for them over the past few months.
So far, only one has shipped from the Mint which I sent off to them and received payment in short order after they received my shipment.
Based on this one experience, things seemed to be going great.
The other 3 orders were still in backordered status at the Mint as of a few days ago.

Today I received an email from PointsMaker notifying everyone that the final day they will be accepting these coins is 10/13. They state that if you can't get your coins in to them by that date, you should cancel your order at the Mint. Now there are several issues here:
  1. Today is Friday 10/8. They just notified me for the first time about this cutoff. I see no reason they couldn't have sent this same email out on Monday. Since it is now the weekend, and Monday is Columbus/Indigenous People's day and they expect the coin on the 13th, this really amounts to only a 1-2 business day notice.
  2. My order at the Mint changed sometime in the past couple days from BACKORDERED to PROCESSING. According to the US Mint you are unable to cancel an order that is in the processing stage.
  3. I relayed #2 to PointsMaker and asked them if they still would accept this order as it would likely ship in the next couple of days and I could forward it to them immediately since we had an agreement on this deal and can no longer cancel the order. Their response was that I should instead return the coin to the Mint.
  4. Problem is, the Mint will not refund me my shipping charge (in this case standard shipping $5). I assume (though don't know for sure) that they will provide me a return shipping label, but if not I may be out another $5-10 to return the coin to them.
  5. When I presented this situation to PointsMaker and told them I already spend time, money, and risk to purchase this coin for them based upon our agreement their response was: "There are risks for everyone and for us as well. It's not like we wanted to cancel but sometimes and especially in this business we don't have the luxury of canceling orders based on everyone's preferences." I don't really find this an adequate response to the situation.
Now I'm not 100% sure on the legality of all this. They sent me an email soliciting purchases and I had to fill out forms for them stating I was participating and provide them all my US Mint order information. I'm pretty sure all of this would constitute a legal agreement - and not just verbal. Additionally, as they are not located in my state I would think that legally this goes into federal fraud for them to back out like this. But, outside of the legality of it - this just seems like a total d*ck move on their part.
Even if I could cancel the order without any monetary loss to myself it doesn't make up for the 40 minutes I spent in trying to purchase the coin from the Mint.

I responded to them once more with a summation of the situation to make sure I have understood their stance correctly, but so far they have not responded.
I just think this is something that should be shared with the community to understand how these guys do business.
Sure, you may have worked with these guys successfully in the past, but think of the risk. It's clear that if anything doesn't go according to their plan they are going to hang you out to dry.

Am I over-reacting? Am I in the right here?

thanks for hearing it out.

Pointsmaker coin deals

I am in the same boat as BenH. Order status just switched to PROCESSING, so I cannot cancel it. Wrote to Pointsmaker, refusing to even acknowledge the issue or extending the deadline.

I could have chosen any other buyer club for this coin and they are now cancelling orders that they promised they would buy back from us. I am never planning on using them anymore.

BenH & pataran Just to clarify I got that email from Pointsmaker as well...it's for the American Eagle 2021 One Ounce Silver Proof Coin - 21EMN (August 12th coin deal). There were coins ordered on Aug 11th as well, the Peace Silver Dollar and Morgan Silver Dollar. I don't believe these were included in the new cutoff.

Re:pointsmaker

You are correct, cajunguy. They knew 21EMN was backordered till October (it said so when we ordered in August). It was expected it would be shipping some time in October and they are still cutting us off on October 13. I'd rather cancel the other coins as well and not sell them anything.

Exactly. Yes it is only for the 21EMN. I have a feeling that there was a small shipment of 21EMN coins in August, because on 8/18, 6 days after the deal, they sent out a reminder saying if your coins have shipped they wanted you to send them ASAP. Of course, this means nothing to the issue at hand because they were very well aware that most people had these on back order regardless if there was an initial small shipment or not. It is clear that the Mint just received their production of them and is now shipping them out to all as we seem to be in the same situation.

My guess, is that based on current prices, PointsMaker realizes that paying a ~$40 commission on each coin is not a good decision anymore, and instead of notifying us weeks ago to cancel they either a) forgot or more likely b) were waiting for these orders to start shipping to see if the market would turn when they were ready to be delivered to buyers. Well, the market didn't turn so they are going ahead an telling us all to cancel orders because they don't want to lose bringing in less than they pay out. Had they only told us a week or two ago this would have been a much better situation. That being said, it still would be crap to do since we spend at least 20-40 minutes trying to purchase these coins under the agreement they are buying them from us. I take the risk that maybe I can't make the purchase and just wasted 45 minutes of my time, but if I am successful they have agreed to a price to buy from me.

I will certainly be cancelling my other 12 coins that I have coming in October with them. Don't know if I will cancel them from the Mint, or just find another buyer, but I certainly will not be dealing with PointsMaker in the future.

So PM answered my last ticket where I was just clarifying their responses and summing up the situation.
They stated "We can refund you for the shipping costs"
So, at least they are willing to do that so I should not be out any $$ once I receive the item and send it to the mint.
HOWEVER, I spent at minimum 30 minutes ordering these coins (perhaps even 60 minutes, I can't remember this particular order, but it usually takes between 30-60 mins of trying to get an order through).
I also need to now deal with returning to the mint and dropping off the package, etc which will take a minimum 15 minutes of my time.
So, I spend somewhere between 45 minutes to an hour and a half on what I was told would be $120 payout. This was an offer they solicited me with, and I agreed to by completing their forms and keeping them informed of my order information. So, in fact, there was a contract defined here which they have broken.
I'm still really unhappy and will likely cancel my outstanding orders with them and most probably not continue to do business with them based on this, but their offer to at least refund shipping may sway others to be a bit more forgiving.

My coin ticket just got marked as read and solved :) no answer, no apology, nothing :) I will cancel all my orders with them and never sell them a single coin in the future. They would have made more money from the 12 coins we have outstanding with them than the money they would lose from these 3 coins I guarantee you that.

Interesting. Perhaps because I clearly asked them to reiterate all their stated points and said something like "I want to ensure I understand your stance before I take further action..." maybe they were concerned I would take further action (which honestly I haven't ruled out). Anyway, I totally agree that they would have made more money on the outstanding coins. Because, in fact I know I will make almost 2x as much selling these other coins to another buyer at this point.

totally agree that this is really messed up. mines was processed very early this morning, so i call us mint to cancel it today. was on hold for over an hour. i just left it in the background but still very annoyed i had to deal with this today. really makes me not want to do any more coin deals with them going forward. pinehurst is still accepting po for this coin ($90/coin) if you want to send it to them. never worked with them before but I read good experiences. might give them a go next time

diburning Oct 8, 2021 7:44 pm

21XJ also has a cutoff of 10/13. I received two emails, one for each. I was not around to participate in 21EMN.

Mine arrived nice and early so I was able to send mine to Pointsmaker well ahead of time. The 21XJ set goes for around $350 on eBay (Pointsmaker is paying $295), so if you want to use that as an outlet to get rid of yours, that can be an option. Being a coin collector and bullion hoarder myself, I kind of wanted to keep my set, but I'm still on the fence about getting another one.

If anyone is stuck with a coin from the 21EMN deal, I might be interested in taking one for whatever your cost is, but I'd have to really think about it first.
