Well the spending part is easy.

Paying it off just got harder.

It seems to me that it would have been far easier for them to do away with debit loads at WM instead of mass closing accounts. I see little use for debit loads (at least anything of any significant $ amount) outside of MS. Given the number of reports of very-lightly-MSed cards getting shut down, this is clearly not a very conservative approach.

I disagree, BB's target market is unbanked. they need the ability to load at WM.

I know I used RB at Target, but never used my Serve as a CC.

I have NOT, but I somehow magically still have a live BB card; it wasn't used for a lot of spending (maybe $6-7k), but it's still alive. I'd guess that there is some invisible fraud cap that has been passed in other accounts.

plenty of usage of serve as a CC, amex offers... Im sure others on here have used Serve with considerable volume of CC purchases for amex offers as well.

Sure, with cash. But if they are unbanked, they don't have a bank-issued debit card, therefore no loss if debit loads were disallowed. I don't really see any use for debit POS loads at WM outside of MS.

1/5 didnt receive the email. It was opened December 2015

One BB and one Serve shut down. Oddly, two other Serve accounts NOT. These two are newer VIP accounts. While I've not had them long, I've maxed them with GC loads at WM every month since I've had them.

Will have to see if I can still load them.

stuntgoats Jan 8, 2016 9:36 am

Did my first load of the month yesterday and now got the shutdown email today. Thankfully I am in a ms lull as my 6 months on a certain 5% card was over a couple of weeks ago.

Goodbye to at least 95% of bb accounts after the shutdown.

Any clue what you did differently for the other one? I didn't get the email yet, and I'm very nervous. I opened BB only last month, did $5k VGC - $5k withdrawal. No activity this month yet.

My guess is no. While everyone is calling this an account "shut-down", it isn't. Amex isn't closing your account, they're asking you to close your account. No negative credit report impact there.

Andyandy

These are not credit accounts - impossible to affect credit!

Billiken Jan 8, 2016 9:40 am

Damn.......oh well.....NEXT

Some moron at Amex thinks we're actually loading CASH on these cards.
(Maybe some criminals actually are......)

Two of three cards AmeXED

Ran $5k through both for the last 37 months.

FWIW...neither had any credit card-type usage (i.e. retail swipes).
