Just had a VGC purchase turned down at Smith's by the supervisor stating, "no credit cards". Bought one there a couple of weeks ago. Never seen that super before though, maybe came from out of State. This is on the Utah/Nevada border.

Best way to purchase gift cards at Smiths is keep it under $100 and use self checkout. Do multiple transactions if necessary.

I just moved to DFW and started buying MO's at Kroger's in the area. Been having pretty good success overall. Been doing 1k MO and asking to split payment for $500 and do two $500 VGC's. But I thought I'd double check something. Is it possible to split tender myself on the POS when POS says "amount OK $1000"? can I click "no" and enter $500 myself to split tender? Or must I verbally ask the cashier to split tender? I assume it is the latter and that's what I've been doing so far but figured I'd see for sure.

Also, I've been looking everywhere for data points on this, but does anyone have experience with a Kroger bill pay similar to what people do with checkfreebillpay at Walmart? I swear I saw someone on FT a few weeks back say he did a large BP at Kroger but I cannot find any additional info/data points.
If the BP at Kroger is possible anyone know what I would ask cashier to pay a Wells Fargo Visa Signature card? And does Kroger have any kind of card/swipe limit similar to Walmart's 4 swipe limit?
Thanks.

Nope the Kroger POS aren't smart. You have to tell cashier you want only $500 off the cards. Go easy at Krogers in DFW, a lot of them in the more densely populated areas aren't so friendly and will shoot you down quick even for saying $499.31.

Thanks for answering. Yeah I've had much better luck in the suburbs. Anything near downtown Dallas, Uptown etc is a write off.

Cincinnati-area Krogers have all been very friendly to me. I usually buy 2 999.29 MOs and split tender between 4 Gebits.
One of the ladies asked me if this was for the gentleman up in the palisades (an area on the west side) and I said no She said he buys 3k in money orders every day from like 4 different Kroger.
Props to you buddy.
Also, is everyone really scared of the Mastercard variable loads that sit right next to the Visa ones? Visa are sometimes out in every store, so I just grab whatever. never had a problem.

I don't even bother with WalMart anymore. I just do Money orders. Every time I do 2k worth of money orders I net $26.41. Do that at three stores in a day on my way home from work and about 45 minutes I net a minimum of 79.22. If I do 3k at each store I net 118.83.
All my MS is done at Kroger now. The only way that would change is if I get a better grocery cashback card (one over 2.551 cash back) or a new player comes onto the market.

4x fuel points on gift cards at my Kroger branded store through 8 Dec. No coupon required. The usual restriction on "financial" variable load and reloadable cards applies. Variable cards from eBay and Disney have always worked for me.

I got fuel points on variable Wendy's GCs. Picked them up by mistake but decided to see if they would give FP's...and they did.

anybody have recent experience with Kroger checkfreebillpays? I'm in DFW and contemplating the attempt of a large bill pay at Kroger with VGC's. Is the system set up exactly the same as Walmart checkfree BP (other than there is no 4 swipe limit)? Saw one success story on FT awhile ago but I cannot find any other data points.
TIA

No Fee GC
Has anyone seen/tried the No Fee coupon for $100 Visa GC? With CB cards, this earns an easy return. Coupon says "1 card", but we know how that goes. Will do a test run tomorrow to see how it works.
