I think this whole, "if they say cash only just move on" is bad advice. If a store becomes a total lost cause, I don't see any drawback in arguing the point with them. What do you have to lose?
Come in when it's really busy and make a small scene and tell them that they are violating their contract with visa/ mastercard.

If 'cash only' is not the corporate policy, but individual store/manager policy then it is our social responsibility to call out such business practices and have some voice in neighborhood business to run responsibly, keeping the drug dealers and money launderers out of our communities, cities, states and the country, for our grand kids!
Bancorp ended paying $1.3 billion fine to the justice dept. for the charges of money laundering activities not too long ago. Bancorp could not track the source of cash (how can they?) all CC payment has the data trail and the footprint.
I am not suggesting to scream at the cashier nor walk out like a lamb! The lies and misconceptions needs to be cleared and every store must have consistent, uniform and defined policies. The cashiers and managers must stop acting like owners! they work for the shareholders and serve our communities.

I think sometimes the lower-level people who have never considered MS or never worked with professional budgets (money in, money out) see someone buying "huge" amounts of debit or gift cards and they can't find a reason for it. A "normal" person only buys for birthdays. Or holidays. They don't come in every day or week to buy the same "large" amount. So even though they have no clue what you are doing, it "seems fishy." --And that's the only reason they shut you down. Because they can't find a logical reason, they figure it must be bad in some way, even if you have ID and your own credit cards.

Yes I can believe this. I imagine that they can't understand how a "young" woman can afford to spend that much when they at "over 40/50" probably couldn't. So yea I can see them assuming things were fishy. However, I provided reasons, I thought, paying bills with debit but I gave up on it. It was just a good way to get extra spend on my 2x card. I will just keep milking my other 5x cards to make up for it.

Funny, I always have the opposite problems. I try and avoid grandma types as they are the most nervous.

Chuckled a little bit when I got back out to the parking lot and was ripping open the packaging.

I too prefer the younger type. They seem to be nonchalant about what you are doing even if they are amazed at how much you are spending. I once got "OMG $2000 on gift cards?!?"

I prefer younger cashiers too, they've grown up in an "all electronic" society. I think it's less weird for them to see someone pay for everything with a swipe vs. using cash. Plus less life experience = less suspicious. (That's my take, anyways...)

I've found younger cashiers, regardless of gender, are more easy to deal with for MS. Although I've had one or two who just couldn't be bothered to figure out how to load something and sent me to CS desk

I agree on the youngsters. Hopefully they won't be nervous, but a soothing, "I'm sure it will go through just fine..." is often enough encouragement for them to try it. They seem more likely to comment about what an enormous sum xxx is, though.

The other side is that if you are a little older, those cashiers in the 40-50 range can get a little resentful. I find younger cashiers easier to work with much of the time. Only solution is to move to the next opportunity.

Sweet! I'll be in Vegas in a couple of weeks! LOL but not sure that I am comfortable with a load of GCs on me.
