800-950-5114. Non-US agents are, as of at least August 15, 2015, able to do debit card payments. If they resist, ask for a US agent.
Please do not report that debit payments do not work over the phone, they do! Hang up and call again (HUCA) until you get someone capable.

The same thing can be done in a Citi branch, but you do not swipe the debit card or enter any PIN, so it seems likely that the same cards do/don't work in branch as over the phone.
The name on the debit card must match the name on the account. You can be an authorized card holder (they'll ask the name of the primary). You can also pay off Citi Business credit cards (only attempted as primary cardholder). Limit of one payment per debit card per account per day.

Debit cards that work for paying Citi cards over the phone.
All Mastercard & Visa debit cards attached to regular checking accounts:
  • Alaska - some have not gotten miles;
  • SunTrust - no miles;
  • UFB Direct - $2000 daily limit - no miles.

Simple Card - see post #347
Swagbucks virtual visa (issued by Prepaid Digital Solutions)
Swagbucks virtual mastercard (issued by MyPrepaidCenter)
Topcashback virtual visa (issued by Bancorp)

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I just called back and it worked now.

Kinda sucks that I have to play HUCA now.

Before today, it has always worked as long as I got a US based representative so I thought that HUCA was reserved for people who did not know to ask for the US based reps.

But I guess I was just extremely lucky and never ran into the strict CSR before.

Anyways, thanks for the data point guys.

When you get rejections, please specify what type of citi card you are trying to pay...

Got turned down by a US rep for trying to pay the Citi AA card. Said can no longer be done over the phone. I thanked him and hung up. Called again about 1 min later and got the same rep.
Damn, what are the odds of that

In that case, call again while keeping him on the line: CAHU.

CSR today claimed that debit card payment was being phased out and was only a "trial" option. Processed mine "as a courtesy".

I'm trying to pay off my AA balance with my TD card and keep getting an error message payment not authorized. Citi rep says money added to TD card is probably not cleared yet, but I checked my credit card and transaction has already posted. I've got $1K on my TD card and payment is for a little more than half that

CSR told me the same thing today minus the 'trial' part.

Datapoint: Just paid $500 to my AA Executive using a US Bank MC GC from Kroger. Had zero issues with agent. When I asked to use my debit card was told no problem, and given a confirmation #. I checked my online account and saw the payment was pending immediately after the phone call.

Did you have to register the gift card online?

I did register the gift card online. Whether that was necessary or not I don't know.

Since you seem to be the only person who's able to do this -- what's your secret? Is your address in some unique format?
