Sorry about that hamhead. The Sheetz I went to had a large sign on the rack-face containing VRs stating Cash Only for variable-value cards.

FWIW and to confirm, my $25 Amazon GC from Sheetz posted as a regular transaction (Type = "Sale"). Didn't really suspect it would be otherwise, but thought I'd follow-up anyway. I buy so much stuff via Amazon that I could easily grab a few $500 AMZN GCs and be done for the quarter.

Here is some of what I saw (somewhere between Fuquay-Varina, NC and Garner, NC)

* VRs, yes--but a big old sign saying Variable Value cards could only be purchased with cash. :-(

* Amazon GCs, two kinds: $25 and $25 to $500. I bought a $25 one to see if it will post as a regular transaction on my Chase Freedom

* Barnes and Noble

* Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mtn (well, it's pretty, urm, "country" in this locale; wonder what's on offer at the RDU Sheetz)

* Applebees, Cracker Barrel, Chili's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Macaroni Grill (and associates), Olive Garden, Darden

* Old Navy, Macy's, Game Stop, iTunes, Xbox Live (I think... picture is fuzzy)

* A bunch of prepaid phone cards

Hope this helps. If anyone gets to the Sheetz at RDU--or other Sheetz in the RTP area, please share if there are any others.

For me, Amazon.com GCs are sufficient to finish up my 5X spend for the quarter.

The two -4's here in downtown Chicago that used to be friendly shut me down multiple times in the last two weeks.

Check out Sheetz and report back! I'll be in Charleston in a few weeks, so hopefully they're around there if so!
Yes Sheetz has been putting up a lot of stores around here. I took a quick look at gift cards awhile back to for UR points but didn't see much. I haven't really wanted to spend much time checking out other possibilities.

I find my Amazon shopping is reducing since tax is charged in NC now. Not a huge difference, but enough to make me look around a little. Still might check out Sheets for some cards though. Thx.

I never had success at Speedway, but Murphy's USA worked fine for variable VGC

Does Murphy's USA actually have walk-in stores? The only ones I've seen are adjuncts to Walmarts, with a Toll Booth type walk-up Cashier in a Box. Wasn't sure there'd be any place to display product. That's all I've seen in Central NC.

You just ask attendant if they have any Visa GC. Most do, but some may be cash only. I've had good success. I haven't seen VR there yet, but did see my vanilla debit cards there too. Most attendants have little experience with it, so always go back to your car and make sure it was activated properly.

Tried a couple of Hess gas stations near me. Was told cash only for Paypower cards. Currently they have a sign saying the fees are waived until 7/31/14.

Anyone have success at Hess on Route 17 NB or SB in Bergen County?

I've bought Disney GCs there in the past, but nothing else. Will try this week.

dumb newb question- the cap is $1500. Does that mean $1500 in cash back, or $1500 in spending, i.e. 3 $500 VR cards or $75 in actual cash back

Hey folks. I'm flying to Miami tomorrow to visit my gf. I'll be at the Magic City casino for a bit, and she doesn't stay to far from there. Any tips on picking getting my Freedom filled up at gas stations in that area? PM is ok.
