FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: CWAL
A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html

CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.

New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.

Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.

Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

The work is hardly commensurate with the reward. All we're doing is taking advantage of opportunities not available to about half the population. We in no way deserve it.

I agree, you don't deserve it. And you don't want to continue to carry the burden of knowing you're getting something you don't deserve. Transfer all of your miles and points over to me. Trust me, you'll feel much better.

I feel good enough already recognizing how lucky I am.

I was in a CVS in south Florida today and was shown a memo that ALL prepaid cards will be limited to $2k per day starting Oct 27th. Not sure if this is local or not. I was still able to buy $4k today. Anyone else see this?

Same here in Tampa, but started today so I was able to only buy $2,000.

This seems like what happened with VRs. The memo gave a date for national hard coding, but some locations started early, and others didn't start until the date stated in the memo. Seems strange that a hard code, that is going to be nationwide, does a slow roll out.

But that is what happened before, and from the reports here seems to be happening again.

Yep, my CVS registers were already hard coded for $2k. The cashier seemed puzzled.

The staff here didn't know about the $5k limit or the $1k ID check until I told them about it. Likewise for the change to cash only on some cards.

Also hard coded here at $2,000. Receipt popped up stating "Daily limit of $5,000 reached. You may continue purchasing prepaid card/phones tomorrow." Clerk also confused, did not know limit had changed.

To those hitting a 2k limit, I think you mean 2k in cards excluding purchase fees. Is that right?
