two of my local go-to CVs have pulled all their stock overnight  not sure what is going on, but I hope it's only temporary. I will check out two other locations tomrrow
So, hang tough and wait it out. Lots of logistical issues all over the country, but esp. in the midwest and northeast. |
CVS now $1k/day?
Was able to buy 4k in 2 separate transactions. Used Amex Blue first time with 2 VR purchases.

Dunno where you're located... but here in Wisconsin, I overheard my local (and wonderful VR purveyors) getting off the phone and saying that the delivery truck wouldn't be there until Thursday, versus normal Tuesday deliveries (incl. VRs). This was due to the weather and such.

Did anyone get error at the register after clerk tried to swiped DL stating "Due to system error we are unable ... " ? I went to one store yesterday and got this error so had to walk away with one VR. Drove to CVS #2 and was able to buy 5 VRs. Today I was back at CVS #1 and CVS #2 and got this error at both stores :(

I got this error today after DL scan. Tried twice, but no go.
Some days I can only do $500 transactions Some days I can do $1000 transactions Some days I can do $2000 transactions and these are all at the exact same CVS. |

+1. I've come to view this as just part of the process.

What did you reply to those questions? Would it be honest a good approach?

I'm still amazed with how many new (to me for VR's) CVS's I can go in and the clerks have no idea about VR's. It's a debate from whether I can buy more than one to if I can use a CC. Good for us! Just proves that this is a very isolated group and let's hope it sticks that way!!
Used personalized AMEX GC at a "new" CVS with no problems. The manager said any form of payment was okay except CVS GC. |
+1
If you have built a relationship with the CVS tellers. Yesterday the DL scan just wasn't working so she did 1X$500+$1x$499 and then moved to a different register where the manager was logged in and did the same again, and apologized to me about not being able to do $5k!!

And if you're lucky enough, the clerks will assist in bypassing the DL scan limits. My DL didn't scan so we did multiple 2 VR transactions without blinking. It really does pay to be nice to your CSRs.

Did my first 10 stack earlier this week. I was pretty nervous having only done 1-2 at a time up until then, but it went quite smoothly. In case anyone is wondering, the CVSs in Brownsville, TX are flush with ice cream. Thank you United for leaving me stranded there for the weekend so I could find that out.

Went to a different CVS (from my regular one) yesterday to buy 3K worth of beans. The cashier said they needed to split them into 3 transactions of 1K each. The third transaction triggered a fraud alert on the Citi TYP card, so I just had him cancel the transaction. Never had that happen with a single 3K transaction, so I know it's not the amount, but the number of swipes.
But, the interesting part... Spoke with Citi's fraud prevention dept, and they said that it wasn't suspicious activity that triggered it, but rather that the magnetic card reader did not read the number or the expiration date properly. They suggested telling the cashier the next time to key in the card number manually. Anyone hear or try that before? |
Unlikely. Most POS also have basic fraud prevention built in. Multiple same card swipes are suspicious so they can be blocked at the register without your card provider ever seeing a block.
