commdiver and payeco, thank you for your replies. It's good to know that PPMCs loads and debit transactions do not contribute to 1099K forms.

No, that was just Vanilla Reloads. You can still buy PayPal reloads at CVS.

Some CVS are actually going cash only as well. My two go-to locations turned me down for the first time ever.

So loading alone would possibly result in 8 * 12 = 96 transactions a month already.

That's 96 in a year, not a month...

Does anybody actually read the thread before posting? This was only two weeks ago:

They were on the list, and the cards are issued by Incomm; but it seems that they are not hard-coded cash-only in the registers.

Therefore, it appears to be up to the store/cashier as to whether you can buy with a credit card.

Yep, I'm down to just one CVS out of four nearby that still carry PP MC. Also have a very close RA that has not restocked in at least a month, but a couple more farther out have plenty. And they don't care about CC use for these.

My go-to RA, which has never turned me down for PP or MP cards, finally said no. I noticed a sign about cash and debit only for GD cards, so I picked up a a PP MC card. The clerk wasn't comfortable so she asked the manager, and she said no. "New rules", she said. I said the PP isn't a GD product, but she wouldn't budge.

I'm assuming that when the MP cards are discontinued and prepaid cards are swipe-loaded at register, it'll be cash only as well. RIP RA.

Well before you declare that PPs are dead, have you tried to confirm this with other RAs? GDs being dead at RA is pretty much a given. It doesn't take much for GD to send down a memo to all of its retailers to say cash or debit only on GD loads.

And besides it could be a cashier YMMV. You said the cashier was not comfortable but I am sure you have run into other cashiers in the past which don't bat an eye so I wouldn't write off that store yet until you have confirmed it with multiple cashiers/managers.

I know PP isn't dead for RA in general, but it's more or less dead FOR ME. It's only worth it to go to RA if the stores are nearby or within my vicinity along my commute to work. I'm getting less motivated go drive out of my way to buy a PP card (and only 1 or 2 at a time, at that). Fortunately, the CVS near me still hasn't given me any problems.

I just got a pp cash card from RA yesterday with my cc.^

Long time first time, sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I have an odd story regarding a PayPal MyCash. I purchased two last Sunday (one with each of two credit cards) at a Cumberland Farms in MA (they were running a deal where the fee is $1.95 instead of $3.95). I got home and immediately activated one, but when loading the second one the next day, the website said that the card had not been activated. I called the number on the back, and the rep told me that the card was listed as “deactivated by store.” Which is strange, because I have the receipt that said it was activated.

Here’s the weird part - neither card has shown up on the credit card statement of the card I bought it with. I’m not sure how to proceed from here… I understand the second card not showing up, but what about the first one? That $500 has to come from somewhere. Should I call the CC company? Call the store? Just wait?

I would wait until it is posted on your credit card. Hopefully never ;)
The issue was likely cause by the processor in the middle who activates/deactivate your card.

Do not call your CC company, especially if you plan to keep the CC for a while. I purchased $2,500 worth of GCs a few months ago that were never activated, but I was still charged the $2,500 plus fees. I called the store's corporate support, and after two weeks of calling back and forth (they needed information from me, such as receipt number, store number, etc.), they credited me the $2,500 back. They were very professional, so I assume that this happens at least on occasion.
