Yeah.... but driving is NO FUN..... and how do you expect to make Platinum Elite if you spend your leisure time driving to vacation destinations.

anyway, I only go to Vegas for Vegas --- if I want NY, London, Venice or Scottsdale, I rather hop on a plane and visit the real thing --- heck this is FlyerTalk.. getting there is half the fun.

BTW, the whole East Coast is only a bit over "4 hours" from LA; by plane.

These suites are AWESOME, but they are at a whole different level.

Celebrity Suite is $3K/night, Hardwood is $25K/night, the Crib is $4K/night --- I think we would need another thread to discuss these types (over $2K/night) of accomodations.

Hubby & I are by no means 'Vegas Whales'.... we go once or twice a year and tend to pay (no comps) between $500-700 per night for a suite for our 3 day stay. We've tried Belliago, Venetian & Wynn--- but keep returning to FS. We don't like the 'casino' atomosphere of those hotels, and prefer the quiet elegance of FS. Also, as we are not big players the other hotels tend to 'ignore' us and give us exactly what we reserved, no more, no less. Whereas since we've been repeat guests at the LV FS, we now reserve the least expensive 'executive suite' and have been upgraded to much more luxurious accomodations--before arrival. To me, FS has the best of both worlds, you can feel you are miles away from the Strip, and yet go thru the door connecting the elevator area of the FS to MB and you are in the midst of all the Las Vegas glitz

PS--Suites are important due to the 2 TV's they offer, as hubby is a big sports fan, and alas I prefer the Travel Channel & HGTV

FS seasons is great if you get a refurbished room. But the Wynn has some pretty good deals right now. I think you can get one of the Parlor suites in the tower for half of what the FS costs.

"Celebrity Suite is $3K/night, Hardwood is $25K/night, the Crib is $4K/night --- I think we would need another thread to discuss these types (over $2K/night) of accomodations."

Uh, I called several months ago, and there were only 1 or 2 rooms that had lowest rates of $5K. All the rest were $10K.. (other than Hardwood) And that's the weekday rate. Weekend rates were $10K and $15K respectively...

Comparing Wynn and FS to Skylofts..

Wynn is horribly overpriced. 2BR Skyloft with 3K sq ft, 3 double beds, and 3 L couches (also pool table on request, maybe lose 1 couch for it) for $1200. Compare that to almost $1K for top ROOM at Wynn. (1BR suite with 2 normal couches) (then there are the 1-3BR villas, at even HIGHER rates)

Also note, no upgrades in higher rooms at Wynn, or anywhere else for that matter. At Skylofts, you can use FHR or LC and go from 1>2 or 2>3.. Insane value there. (They have a number of 2BRs too, so the 1>2 upgrade is one you can pretty much count on, except during peak season/big events)

Now with FS, it's more expensive, but its traditional decor, and not sure how service compares with Skylofts. Obviously while rooms are comparable size/price to Skylofts at THEhotel next door, the service difference would be huge. (although maybe added cost of butler service at THEhotel is still cheaper overall than FS... then it goes back to traditional vs modern decor. and THEhotel DOES seem a little dark for me, too :P)

Also FS and then Bellagio have the overall atmosphere advantage. While Skyloft floor(s) are great I'm sure, the rest of the MGM can't compare to FS and Bellagio.

Oh and finally, all the reviews I've personally READ of the Wynn had SOME negative comments :P If there are glowing reviews, I haven't seen them, other than the one I linked :P

Also, I agree on not going to gamble :P If I were going to, I'd be looking forward to comps

"Whereas since we've been repeat guests at the LV FS, we now reserve the least expensive 'executive suite' and have been upgraded to much more luxurious accomodations--before arrival."

And you don't need more BR, just a larger nicer room. Sounds like some nice well deserved treatment

Wink Thanks Kagehitokiri

After reading your very thorough post, I feel like we think very much alike on so many of your points.

As I said previously, I am always torn between the Bellagio and FS. Both are the best on the Strip in location and atmosphere and decor - IMHO.

I was thinking of ordering some flowers for our room to make it more ALIVE. Not sure what to expect from the FS florist though. I am sure it will be an extremely expensive small arrangement.

19 more days til I arrive in Vegas! I cannot wait and I do not care if it is 110 degrees... I just love the place and the FS there.

We generally go in Sept and Nov (Football season), where prices are basically the same at FS/Wynn, Venetian et al for a suite. I would imagine during the summer months, Wynn along with others would be offering discounted rates. Alas, not much football wagering during that time to please hubby

My son was there last week. He also booked through AMEX Plat & was upgraded to a 1700 sq. ft. suite. Said it was magnificent. Unfortunately, he was only there for one night, was on business and was alone.

I'm spending this weekend at the Wynn. My second stay. First was a business trip when it was brand new and just wanted check it out. The reason we chose Wynn over the RC Lake Vegas or the FS LAS was that we wanted a more typical Vegas experience and the RC/FS both have differentiating charactersitics that we just were not interested in at the moment.

The physical plant is excellent. From the right weight of the doors in the bathrooms, to the art in-room, to the public areas. Superior to any older vintage RC or FS in this respect and slightly lower quality than a brand new RC/FS/MO.

The service is the downfall.
-Showed up at 2:30 and room not ready
-Would then not allow us to room charge the lunch we had while waiting for our room to be ready. We insisted on this b/c if the FHR benefit. Then asked me to get up and check-in in the middle of my meal if I wanted to have room credit. Just a silly policy...
-Pool waitresses have been M.I.A.
-Strict enformcement of where you can use breakfast credit. Not allowed for room service
-No people to do pool setups. No umbrellas. Just grab a towel and do your best.

While, I agree it is aggrevating to NOT be able to get into your room; check-in time is 3PM; so, this can't really be considered a "downfall"; unless of course, they made you wait way past 3PM.

I agree. They were playing within the rules here. But they should not invite me to ue my FHR credit for lunch while waiting only to be told by the restuarant that I could not use my FHR credit b/c my room was not ready!

I stayed there in June and July this year.

In June -- booked a premier strip view room and in July upgraded to a suite.
Loved the service, loved the PEACE and loved the pool for its amenities. We went to the wave pool and came back promptly.

Try the ice cream with room service and the French press coffee at Verandahs

My first stay here in November 2007 was a disappointing stay due to several service breakdowns. We returned in August 2008 for my birthday and it was virtually a different hotel. The service was impeccable, the F&B fantastic, and the Spa sublime.

For me, it's now a toss-up between the SkyLofts and the FS for my favourite in Vegas.
