We´ll see... In October it seems a little bit expensive to me.

Not sure if I would stay all too soon, since FS is solid. Even more so now with Verena L in charge of the Spa and her hubby at the helm of F&B operations.

I think these are 'wishful thinking' rates on the part of SS. My hunch - give it 6-8 months and the rates will drop by 50%.

I recall Raffles had similarly high rates when they first opened, and had to drop them pretty substantially.

We plan to go in September '17 so we'll check the rates evolution regularly

So is it a good or a bad sign

Good sign. Verena is lovely -- she knows how to run a good spa, understands chemical-free and can build a great team. Her husband is like her ex-FSGV (and ex-FS Marrakech btw), so you get the idea. Alex Porteous left smooth operations anyway. Go!

Except Raffles has nothing "special" to offer, SS has - it seems -
an amazing location.
I think they need to include their heli transfer and some extras
to be able to charge that much. Still I don't think they will open in October
We wanted to go there and even plan our trip around it, but somehow
now, after all those delays, I'm not sure anymore.

Agree about Raffles in general but the special thing was during our visit, that it´s more or less the only luxury hotel on Praslin.

I think it WILL open in October. But it will only be (very) partially done. My bet is that there will continue to be construction work at the resort for another 6-12 months after the opening in October.

Service will also take at least another 6 months.

I would not go until late 2017. And it'll be interesting to see if the location is special enough to warrant the rates.

thats why some pay high rates for even fewer rooms (and lower occupancy)

77 villas (107 bedrooms) FS, not a private island, fees are +26.5%

32 villas (39 bedrooms) six senses
six senses is private island like (brando) , fregate , north , (laucala)
(amanpulo rates keep going up, including new holiday premium)
seems six senses kept original spa design, which looked great
curious re rates for 2/3BR, the 3/4BR design is actually unique
two of the 'seasons' >
1,112 1,562 Hideaway
1,472 1,923 Panorama
1,652 2,103 Ocean Front
1,833 2,283 Pasyon
inclusive of breakfast, tax and service charge
those rates are before 40% off then 20% off
thanks Pierre&Cédric for lower season rates

aforementioned private islands are not high density like maldives
rates in maldives (and everywhere really) continue to increase

operating costs of private island are a lot higher than regular hotel
if six senses is same price as FS, FS is 'expensive' , not six senses
maia also more expensive since all-inclusive rates and 30 villas
interesting maia says it includes scuba diving, i didnt recall that
pretty rare - maia , north , (laucala - inner reef) , (maybe necker)
