Pool Suite

When I booked Amangire I asked for a Pool Suite, but only the cheapest or Amangiri Suite was available. When we arrived I was glad, that we booked the cheapest one. The pool of the Pool Suite indeed lacks privacy and if I believe you have no view from it. The Suite is the same as the cheap one, so I think 500 $ + tax and service is too much only to use such a small and unattractive pool.

Till our visit we didnŽt have problems with people walking around and we werenŽt told something about staying out of the desert. But itŽs true, privacy is over all not a strength of Amangiri.

In the end we had another great issue with Amangiri: The food. You canŽt eat anywere else and they serve at best medicore food with a big price tag. So yes, I would stay again and itŽs a nice resort. But the suites are not top notch in my eyes, the pool is directly in front of the dining-terrace and some other things could be improved.

Thanks for the great report. I know they are trying to blend the resort into its surroundings with the architecture, but the whole thing looks a little sterile to me.

You are most certainly welcome, and I am glad you find it informative & helpful, though sad it makes you less likely (perhaps?) to try it for yourself.

Stunning report with marvelous pics, aa213bb !!

Staff at Amangiri seems to have a high rate of fluctuation in short periods I am being told (what do you do in Page for months ?) so service not so polished as elsewhere.

Greetings from Amanyara.

What a fabulous trip report, thanks so much for sharing! My wife and I frequently visit southern Utah (in much more rugged conditions ) and this has reignited our interest in Amangiri. Unfortunately, our available travel (with plenty of "Aman time") is pretty much booked for a while, but it is definitely back on our radar! Thanks again...

Absolutely amazing trip report! Thank you. I can imagine using this as a reference for planning a trip to Giri.

Thank you, Ericka. That means a lot, coming from a long time poster such as yourself, and is exactly how I hoped this report will be used.

I'm really glad to hear they've made changes to the slot canyon excursion - it sounds a million times better than when we did it a couple years ago, when it was combined with a silly "hummer adventure" ... some slightly lame "stunt" riding in a monster truck driven by a local guy whose conversational repertoire was derived from offensive jokes based on stereotypes of American Indians. The slot canyon itself was amazing though.

I still have the Amangiri list, and in looking it over I found these two excursions (the first, I believe, being the one you took):

Off-Road Slot Canyon Tour

Slot Canyons are some of the most beautiful geological masterpieces in a region known for its superb beauty. The Secret Canyon Adventure starts off with a half-an-hour hummer adventure. The trek to the canyon is filled with obstacles and difficult terrain that is an experience in and of itself. Entering Secret Canyon on foot you will experience the natural beauty inside of a serene, peaceful, and quiet spectacle of nature. You and your group will be alone in the canyon spending one hour exploring the many beautiful and unique natural features created from the millions of years of erosion in the over sixty feet (18 meters) deep slot canyon. This is truly a photographers dream.
Three Canyon Slot Canyon Tour

Located on the Navajo Nation, Rattlesnake Canyon, Owl Canyon and your choice of Upper Antelope Canyon, or Mountain Sheep Canyon combine to create a half-day tour that offers a comparison of three distinct, and iconic, canyons of the Southwest. Your Navajo guide will meet you on the front steps of Amangiri and serve as your driver and guide throughout the tour.
So, I believe the one I took is a different excursion from the one you took.

Could you all please just post what you paid and approximate date. I really do not care about rate cards, etc. I have said at the best suites in Vegas that go for over 20K and I did pay even ten percent. So please post some rates and not the price is the rack rate card.

youre seriously comparing luxury hotels with casinos? if a gambler loses millions of dollars in a single day, the casino can literally not spend anywhere near that on the person, no matter what they do. that principle applies across dollar figures. that is how casinos make money. wynn also discussed how he lost money on biggest profile celebrity shows, in terms of net profit from the inexpensive tickets. because the show itself is not where the money is, so it doesnt matter.

this is the luxury hotels forum. base rates can be in the thousands per night at singita, laucala, etc.

you dont seem to understand that aman charges the published rates. if you look at aman web reservations, it shows published rates. if you look at any site that discusses amanresorts, they show published rates. when they have offers, they are on the "exclusives" page. (there are other luxury hotels that are not that different.) there was ONCE an american express FHR 4th night free, summer 2009, during financial crisis. there are reports of great upgrades at aman and other luxury properties, some via virtuoso etc. also aman may sometimes have (or have had in past) opening rates for a limited time, that are lower than website available in launch documents and when contacting the property/aman. there are posts discussing them for amanyara, and that they only lasted until some time in november (book by then) when it opened in march the following year. a number of times aman has had the opening rates online, maybe more recently. but i think there were also comments, again maybe referring to past, describing rates that were no on site. and of course site is relatively new considering aman started in late 80s.

some luxury hotels lose money, even when they charge much more than this. because they are so incredibly expensive to operate. like room service. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...arn-money.html and even things that do not have the same kind of operating costs can still have price/brand integrity.

the whole point of most aman is that they have low occupancy. and have very few rooms, with amenities that other properties would offer with many times that number of rooms.

amangiri has 34 rooms and is in the middle of nowhere.

1 November, 2012 to 15 March, 2013 (low season) there was a free full board offer at amangiri >

For stays of seven nights or more, guests will also receive a [1] complimentary night at Amangani.

YouŽll pay the Rack Rate, if you care or not! I paid 1050 $ + 10 % service charge, 6,95 % sales tax and 4,25 % transient room tax in June. Like most time they were fully booked, so I never heared abut rate-promotions.

This is the Aman way , unless they post exclusives .. Whether on the web or " regional " specials which they will email you if you are on their mailing list .. or happen to check with the GM if you aren't
If anything , an upgrade
