I've stayed at both the E&O Penang and the Raffles Singapore. They are on completely different levels, with E&O closer to 4 star while the Raffles is full-on 5-star luxury. I nonetheless enjoyed my stay at the E&O in their modern wing. It's good for the price point. The Raffles is newly renovated, the hard-product (rooms) are large, high quality and top-notch. My service experience at the Raffles was not as pleasant as FlyerEC's experience though. We hated the lobby entrance experience with the locked doors and challenges from staff to suss out whether we were guests or tourists trying to peek in the lobby (as detailed in an above-post) and we found our butler was not particularly pleasant. Ours arrived late for our in-room check-out and didn't seem particularly pleased to be there- her service was perfunctory. We didn't have any lovely interactions with the famed doormen who never seemed to be there when we came in through the front doors (we had to open the doors ourselves 100% of the time). That all said, the Raffles is still a genuine full-luxury property and not just for casual tourists, we just didn't totally love our experience.

I've often had early flights and found myself in a hotel lobby at 5am or so waiting for my lift to the airport. In some very nice hotels I've regularly seen well dressed young women leaving at that time in the morning, but not checking out and no luggage....

My family and I will be spending a few nights in Singapore after a cruise next January. We've never been there before and want a nice hotel with good hard and soft product, and in a pleasant location. I've currently got a suite booked at the St. Regis but am not finding much online in terms of reviews. Other places I considered included the Ritz-Carlton (but need two rooms since even the big suites have a max occupancy of 3), the Conrad (which has an attractively-priced 2-bedroom family suite), and the Four Seasons (which recently got praised here for being a true luxury bargain in the area).
Any experiences with the St. Regis and/or strong recommendations to book somewhere else?

We are talking Singapore, a city where you choose the option that sucks the least. If you are arriving/leaving at odd hours, make certain you work out the times with the hotel beforehand. I can't imagine spending 14 hours homeless in Singapore with small children, even at its terrific airport.
If you do change to the Conrad or Pan Pacific, you might take the children to the lobby of the MO, easily the ugliest, most garnish assault on the senses in the world. I get sick just thinking about it.

I'm not finding any threads over there at all. I am ambassador elite with Marriott (hence looking so closely at the St. Regis and Ritz), but am not at all sure if the elite treatment there is enough to make a difference.

Planning a trip to Singapore and Bali next year and currently looking at Mandarin Oriental. Consensus seems to be that Sands is sort of gross and not worth it unless you really want a photo opp in the infinity pool (which is likely too crowded anyway). Very excited about the MO as I have never been to one - and hoping that using AMEX FHR gives me a bit of an upgrade boost. Any idea what to expect when booking via FHR?

I’m there next week on a Fan club rate, which includes upgrade at booking. My TA booked me into the club ocean view, and immediately got the upgrade to club marina bay. I’ll report back on how it is.
I’ve never stayed at Marina Bay Sands in all my trips to Singapore (and likely never will). I have no issue with the hotel itself, I’ll go to the shops, play the tables a bit in the casino, and go to the bar on the roof. But it’s not luxury

One category upgrade, at check in (if available) seems to be the FHR offering.
