UPDATE: I easily made the connection. Inbound UA952 was 20 mins early. Hopped the train to B gates, through security in no time and walk down to B26. Plenty of time for a couple of double espressos. The one new thing, new to me anyway, was an additional passport check at the gate prior to boarding beginning. Had to show passport e-boarding pass and security guy seemed to check my name against flight manifest and put a sticker on my passport.

Hi
We are connecting through FRA on Friday and looking for some advice please...
We arrive on BA at 9.45am and depart on United at 2.00pm. We are on two separate tickets.
Our plan is to pick up bags from the BA flight, make our way to the arrivals area and then get the shuttle bus to terminal 1, check in for the United flight (we are in F) and make our way to the Senator lounge.
We haven't been to FRA before, and we would like to use the big new Senator lounge (and get a massage) as we are both Senators. Am i correct in thinking that this is at the B gates, but we will be departing from the Z gates? Presume we will have to clear security twice (is there priority security for Senator/F passengers?), and we will make sure we arrive at the Z gates in plenty of time, using the Tower lounge if we have time (is it worth it?)
Does all this sound right?
Also, we would like to pick up some Easter chocolate gifts at FRA - any recommendations?
Thanks in advance

Have not been through FRA in the past year so I am wondering if the security protocal has changed for connecting flights??
In my past experience every UA and LH flight arriving from SFO (non-schengen) was required to reclear security before accessing the non-schengen departure area. Needless to say this could be problematic when you had a 1-hour connection! But now I read that you do not have to clear security when flight arrives from USA. Is that correct?
Err, never mind I see per post #791 that things have not really changed, at least as of August 2011: The downside is that as of now you will always have to re-clear security if arriving non-Schengen, except at Pier A. Alas my flights always arrive at B or C.

Connection in Frankfurt - 50 minutes, too tight or OK?
LUFTHANSA 5283 CHARLOTTE 02SEP12 4:45pm FRANKFURT 03SEP12 7:20am
LUFTHANSA 324 FRANKFURT 03SEP12 8:10am VENICE
If the flight out of CLT arrives on time, and gates are close to each other - I'm probably fine - but if Frankfurt is spread out and flight is late coming in, might be a problem.
Have never flown into Frankfurt. Have no idea what the terminal is like.
If I were flying into Logan in Boston, or maybe DFW - I would be concerned that 50 minutes is a little too tight.
Any comments or thoughts?
Thanks

50 min. would be tight. You will have to clear security while connecting and some gates can be quite a hike if you need to switch terminal areas.

Seems tight to me. Frankfurt is a sprawling mess.

Last time I connected through Frankfurt to Venice, I recall it taking about an hour and a half.

Way too tight a timeline, I would look for at least an hour and a half like the previous poster suggested

Please continue to follow this thread in the LH Forum (Thought about moving the thread to Germany Forum, but decided our LH folks would be the best resource).

. Take a look at this thread for all the tricks of connecting at FRA http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...on-thread.html
Will read the thread, and have my wife read it also - we should have a pretty good grasp of FRA from that.

Just got off the phone with Lufthansa
Said the flight out of CLT is actually a US AIR flight with space sold to Lufthansa.
Also said the CLT incoming flight to FRA would come into terminal one, and departing flight to Venice would be departing terminal one.
She also stated there would only be a passport check at the gate of flight departing for Venice and I would not have to clear security or customs.
She checked the "legality" of the connection and stated the "legal" minimum time for that connection was 45 min ( at first she said an hour, then said let me look further - came back and said 45 min) and I should be OK.
Next Lufthansa flight out is close to five hours later. When I asked if there was incoming delay would I have to wait the five hours or would they put me on next available airlines flight to venice - she never really gave a satisfactory answer.
It _is_ tighter than I like - was booked by cruise line, no input on booking - take it or rebook completely.
I have to run for now, maybe I will call lufthansa later and see if I get same information from another person on clearing security/customs, etc - and legality of connection
Need to ask about "piers" also. She only talked about Terminals One and Two

There are no other flights to Venezia in the interim- from any carrier- if you miss the flight you will have to wait 5 hours.

I had an amusing connection in FRA this weekend. Flew in from NRT in F and had a tight(-ish) connection to BRU. I was duly met by a gentleman holding a sign with my name. Unfortunately his keycard failed to work and we spent ten minutes standing around a very empty corridor while he got it fixed.
I wasn't amused to learn that they've now put in a security theatre in addition to immigration stop. Why do they need to check bags again when you've just come out of a plane, and were accompanied by a supposedly trusted employee (despite dysfunctional keycard) ever since? I don't remember that being there last time either? I can (vaguely) grasp the need for security theatre when you've been allowed to mingle with other suspe---passengers and around shops selling dangerous knickknacks but on direct transfer it's just silly.
Admittedly, if I were that kind of person, I'd rather "damage" a cramped old 737 than a shiny new A380 but anything I were going to do the damage with would have been found before I boarded the A380.
FRA ... full of surprises!
