Does anybody know if it's possible to enter Terminal 2 with a Star Alliance boarding pass (for the purpose of seeing a friend - I have ample layover time.)
I've had zero issues at Frankfurt airport going to A, B, C, or Z without the proper boarding pass - at worst I got a surprised look and a reminder that I would need to time to go back and/or re-clear security. But I've never tried switching terminals altogether.

AFAIK the Skyline train is 'unclean' or in Schengen/public area. You may be able to remain in non-Schengen but I don't think you can stay behind security. I have no experience of arriving in or departing from T2 but I believe security is at the gate and you cannot avoid re-clearing security when you return to T1.

I have read thru some posts on this thread how to connect in FRA, but reading 251 pages is impossible, so apologies if this had been asked before. Plus, I am flying first time on LH and I did not know if I should have posted here on NEWBIE ask your lufthansa questions thread. So here it goes:
All my flights are on a single ticket. Economy on all legs. I have no schengen visa. My questions are:
1) I guess most of IST-FRA or FRA-IST flights are to/from B gates. And US flights are mostly from Z gates. What is the connection procedure?
2) I am planning to get upgrades to J on the legs between FRA and IST (outbound and inbound). To which lounges can I get access to? Can I get a lounge access on my IST-FRA-IAD outbound flight with my IST-FRA J class and FRA-IAD economy?

You are correct. Flights from IST usually arrive at B gates and most flights to the US depart from Z gates. Following the signs to your departure gate should take you to the Skyline train platform, where you board the train going to A/Z (one stop). After getting off the train you go through transfer security and go one floor down to Z departures. There will be document check at the gate and possibly random (additional) security check.
It's not really worth upgrading IST-FRA and FRA-IST to Business as you will get exactly the same seats as in Economy. The only difference will a better meal and an empty seat next to you. Since LH lounges are departure lounges flying IST-FRA in Business and connecting to IAD in Economy will only give you lounge access in IST but not in FRA. On the way back you will have lounge access in FRA but not in EWR.
If possible you should try and upgrade at least one of the longhaul segments (FRA-IAD or EWR-FRA) into Premium Economy. You will get more space/better seats and will be able to purchase lounge access before departure.

I had no idea about how good LH lounges are in FRA but I know very well that TK lounge in IST rocks.

You will be disappointed by FRA Business Lounges if you expect something similar to the TK lounge in IST. As I said it's not worth upgrading shorthaul segments to access LH business lounges.

First time poster here...I'm sure my issue has been answered many times but after searching through pages for 10 min I figured I'd just throw it out there.
We arrive FRA @ 5:35am on LH flight from BOS. We need to book a flight to HAM (most likely also LH) that same morning. It has to be a new ticket as we originally thought we'd drive and have already booked BOS to FRA. There are flights @ 7am & 8am. Would 7am flight be enough time considering we'll probably have to collect our luggage and recheck (unless we can convince LH folks in BOS to check through to HAM on our 2nd ticket). Should we book the 7am and hope that LH accommodates us on the later flight should we miss the connection? (given that it will be a different ticket will they?) Thanks so much!

Checking bags through should not be too much of a problem. Show both reservations at checkin. (Although I read somewhere that some airlines do not check bags through anymore if on separate tickets, but I can't recall having read about LH in this context.)

Considering all this, personally I would book a later flight to HAM.

LH BOS will only check thru if the FRA-HAM is booked in Eco Classic/flex or if you can demonstrate that you paid for the extra bag in advance (costs 15€/pc, at checkin its costs 30!)

We have been through FRA before and I was not too worried about the connection as long as the flight is on time. I have noticed that a lot of the BCN flights are coming into the ASW bus gates.

We will be travelling from Hamburg via Frankfurt to Washington. HAM - FRA will be on Lufthansa and will arrive at terminal 1A (often at the far end…Gate 36 or higher), FRA - IAD will be with United at Terminal 1Z. (mostly at Gate Z22/Z23)
We are on one ticket booked through United and have 1:15 hour for the connection on a Saturday morning!
Can someone tell me how the connection in FRA is? Will we have enough time? Do we have to clear security again or just passport control?
