Would like to get it settled before i go to the airport. I understand I may also be offered the upgrade at the airport.

I understand I may also be offered the upgrade at the airport.
so I am attempting to understand if I can trigger that offer by checking out and re-checking in of my flight

I submitted an offer for two flights DUS-VIE-DUS in July (50€ each, more for fun than for actually expecting the upgrade), and both of them got rejected.
Interesting enough, the C load on the inbound was only 2/12 (so they seem to have a hard limit on minimum bids), the outbound was completely full. Well, I happily took the exit row seat (with vacant middle seat on both legs) that I managed to sneak free of charge at checkin (probably due to my 3rd party *G status)..
What I don't undestand: They gave me the option to bid more on the upgrade than what I'd have paid when bookig C in the first place; how stupid do they think us folks are?

I can imagine there might even be a corporation that would allow you to claim expense.

Is it possible to get Smart Upgrade if ticket is not on OS ticket stock? I don't see the option online when using my OS reference number, is it possible if I call in to Austrian? If, as I suspect, Smart Upgrade is only offered to those booked on OS ticket stock, does anyone know what the fixed upgrade price is for IAD-VIE?
I bought it on UA stock because the price was the same (without OS credit card fee), and it would bring some more miles than distance base (as small as the difference might be).

Just as a data point - I've given the option to Smart Upgrade on UA stock ticket that contained only OS flights.

I have been offered the opportunity to upgrade at web-check in, but not smart upgrade.
Interestingly, I recently found out if you have a special meal in your reservation you will not be offered an upgrade at all.

If crediting to another ffp you will get miles for P class as well. How many it depends on the ffp.
