Some PE seats will be blocked - becomes available at check-in.
As the flight is very far from being sold out in Y, there seems to be no need to move Y pax to PE and consequently no need for PE to C.
If you hope for an upgrade to C, I think you will be disappointed.

This bird is full in PE. Note that LH doesn't block any seats in PE on the A359.

Could I get a check on LH434 MUC-ORD on Sept 09 wondering on possible op-ups from G...
BTW, if I buy the currently offered upgrade to business on LH site at a fixed price / no bid offer (offered at a very low price ~ 150 eur!) would my miles earning change to 200%? (I'm other words would the booking fare change from G to D/C or to I?)

Looks like PE is overbooked.. happens all the time. No good way to read how far over though.

According to this query result from EF the lowest booking class in Business that's available right now is C.
The seatmap in PE currently shows 9 seats that are either unassigned or blocked and LH is willing to sell at least 9 seats in either G or E class right now.
Please be aware that the results EF show are not necessarily 100% the same you get when someone with access to a GDS runs the same query.

I think the fixed price cash upgrades in MMB on LH.com place you in the next available business class fare bucket. I recently did an upgrade from M into business and was put into P.

Yes, indeed, if I wanted to buy today business class ticket they sell it in Z.
So if I buy the fixed price upgrade on MUC-ORD leg (it's veery tempting at 640pln!) then I'm going to end up on Z, right? hence neutral from the miles earning perspective, as G and Z earns the same, even if I want to take them into UA MP (I'm 13k short of 1K).
I only i knew I'd get to D....

It is very likely you will be in Z. Also note that they don't reissue your ticket with the cash upgrade, but chnage the booking class and add an EMD to the PNR to account for the upgrade cost. It may be that UAMP will not recognize such upgrade correctly for mileage credit. That said I would go for it just in case it books into C or D. As you may be aware LH434 also offers F... you could try to apply a GPU, or hope that if the C cabin is oversold a *G in D is likely to move up

I get an error message telling 'sorry not possible any more due to reservations situation, the offer would need to be recalculated, pls contact....'
I'll check tommorow, but, well, I'll see what happens at the gate

Note that due to the BA strike flights on September 9 & 10 seem to be rather full. I'm flying to India the weekend after that and as soon as the BALPA strike and LHR shutdown were announced the seat map filled up ....
