Dodger Stadium

I'm not at all familiar with the LA area, but may be in town on Sunday (I am flying the red-eye out of LAX at 11:10PM) and would love to catch the Mets-Dodgers game at Dodger Stadium (assuming one team doesn't sweep). The Dodgers website showed no real public transportation, so I assume I'd have to rent a car. Mapquest says its about a 25 minute drive from the airport to the Park. Is this accurate? I know LA traffic is notorious for being awful - is it feasible to rent a car and drive to the stadium (and back?) Where are the best places to park near the stadium where I won't get stuck in killer traffic going back to the airport (will I have to leave in the 8th inning like LA sports fans are famous for doing?)

Also, there are some reasonably priced tix available on TicketsNow and Stub Hub - any tips on great seat locations? Am I better off trying to scalp them day of game? Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, there is no practical alternative

It's technically accurate with no traffic, but I would double that, due to street traffic around Chavez Ravine and parking backups.

Sure, but give yourself an extra half hour each way to deal with the offsite rental car facilities and gasoline.

You have no choice. There is no parking other than the stadium run lot, which is massive.

That is an unanswerable question. Truly depends on the start time of the game, and when you leave. If it is a close game and you leave in the 8th inning, you can exit the lot in five minutes once you find your car. Be careful though, there are a number of different ways out of the lot, and if you do not find the "110" exit, you will be in trouble.

Renting a car is probably your best bet...
However, for those that claim there's no public transport to Dodger Stadium, try the #2 Metro Bus, from Union Station Downtown...

DON'T try to scalp Dodger tix at the stadium or you are apt to see the inside of LA's lovely jail cells...instead of the ball park. The city has a very aggressive anti-scalping ordinance and it is vigorously enforced on the grounds.

I agree completely with both sentences. Public transportation in Los Angeles, California, isn't nearly as bad as people would have you believe, especially given the huge expanse of the city.

The 8th innning?! That's when the die-hard fans leave. I've seen the stands start clearing out in the 7th. But, they are a little better about this during the playoffs. And, it was funny to see all those people trying to get back into the stands during that extra-inning game where they hit four back-to-back home runs against the Padres on September 18th!

Watching movie trailers between innings at Dodger Stadium always trips me out! Only in Los Angeles ...

It's been years since I've been to DOdger Stadium (the O'Malleys still owned the team). But IIRC, the #2 bus travels on Sunset (it does not to the Stadium itself). Again IIRC, the bus rider would need to get off the bus at the corner of Sunset and Elysian Park, then walk a considerable distance up a hill, right?

Yeah, it's not a bad walk though and it's not quite straight up hill the whole time. It's kind of rolling hills. It's not bad though, who couldn't use more exercise anyway?

LAX Flyaway to Union Station

#2 Bus to Elysian Park Boulevard

Go metro!

oh yeah, and go Dodgers!!!

Try E-bay, I live in the LA area and have had great luck on E-Bay, have bought tickets to basketball playoff etc.

I agree with the car rental, just make sure you get on the 110 going south or you will get hopelessly lost. The exits are tricky even for people who leave here. Ask some of your fellow baseball fans for tips.

Once you get to the 110 and get out of downtown, you should be ok unless there is an accident or something. Have a great time!

Considerable distance? Not really.

My mapping program makes it 0.59 miles from the corner of Sunset to the Ticket Booths... (or in NY terms, it's about 12 uptown-downtown blocks)

Well, if the Dodgers can't figure out how to generate some offense, and soon, this whole thread may well be moot!

All too true - before this series started, I'd have actually bet it would go 5. . .not so much now!

Thanks so much for the tips everyone. . .hopefully if the Dodgers are playing on Sunday, I will be in attendance and not have had to fork over an arm and a leg to get in the door (that's great though, that they are so tough on scalping - the Red Sox and Boston PD could learn a thing or two about that)

Dodgers playoff tix? Not a problem. Use the Dodgers Ticket Exchange

Have you ever actually walked it? On a game day? I have. It's a slog. It is doable, but not what I would call a fun little walk.

Then again the drive up the hill from the freeway offramp to the parking lot can take 1/2 an hour.

Oh please...

A "slog" is having to park up on the mesa west above the Rose Bowl and hike down and back, because the golf course has had a soaking rain and they've forbidden parking on the grass. That's about a mile & a quarter and 300 of elevation change....

The walk from Sunset is just enough to work up an appetite for a Dodger dog!

After the game, plan on 1 hour to get out of the parking lot (and that is assuming that most of the people leave in the 7th).
