It is really, really hot. Some may attempt to draw a distinction between "dry heat" and "humid heat." I don't care what that heat is called: it is just damn hot!. My problem is that I cannot tolerate 24/7 air conditioning. Unfortunately, that is what one gets mid-summer. I was in LAS in early June and found it too hot to be outdoors. The updside,is that in LAS there are lots of indoor activities available...... everything, but fresh, cool night air

You know what, it wasn't too bad today for the last week in July. It was in the low 100s before the rain came. I saw two people walking down the strip with umbrellas. Who brings an umbrella with them to the strip?

Will be here for a part of a honeymoon, via Ireland_NY_BOS_NOLA. Where would you recommend going for places for a drink (yes, my intended is Irish after all).
Cheers
A drink is one thing you won't have trouble finding in Las Vegas. What atmosphere are you looking for?

One would think it wouldn't be that hard, but lately it seems that every property is jumping on the "Disco/Studio 54" bandwagon.

On a Saturday night last month, we bypassed 5 different properties because they were charging cover charges (anywhere from $5-15/head) on their non-disco/club bars, which we refused to pay. These are places like Nine Fine Irishmen in NYNY, and the Monte Carlo Brewpub. The MCPB was the worst. Adding a loud DJ and some lights to your brewpub does not make it into Studio 54. Admittedly they were allowing guests of the hotel in gratis, but if your place is empty (which it was) at midnight on a Saturday night, get a clue.

We just wanted a beer.

I'm pretty sure the Monte Carlo has other bars that don't charge a cover.

The real challenge in Las Vegas is finding a quiet lounge. One well-kept secret is at the Luxor, upstairs in the "fine dining" mezzanine where Isis and the Sacred Sea room are.

What can I tell you? Houdinis lounge was too "loungey", Dragon Noodle was closed for the night. We didn't want to sit at a casino/video poker bar.

We ended up at Diego in the MGM.

The disco+cover charge trend stinks.

Even though they're both hot, I think that is a big distinction. Once I brought some of my HK relatives during the summer for a visit and they admitted in being hotter than HK, but at the same token, they asked why they aren't sweating as much as they normally do in HK.

just came back from vegas. yes it was hot on some days. but it was still humid to me. but i loved every minute of it. we stayed at the stratosphere adn will NEVER stay there again. one good thing about the strat is the top of the world lounge. we went on a ride then went down for a drink and it was happy hour. to my huge surprise they were charging 2.00 for a bottle of beer. i was shocked. it wasnt busy and the view is priceless. Able - his name, the bartender was very nice. thank you for all the suggestions.

That's one of the dangers of "dry heat". They were sweating just as much (or maybe even more) that they normally do. It is evaporating. You must still replace your water. However, an advantage of dry heat is that when the sweat evaporates, you get evaporative cooling on your skin, which helps, ever so slightly.

Recently there has been several thunderstorm dumped in the Southwestern part of the country especially last July, bringing up the level of humidity. All were attributed to the recent hurricane dennis.

Yes, humidity is quite unusual in Vegas.

Wet heat sucks big time... I actually hate the misters in Vegas b/c they make the immediate area moist.

A disadvantage of dry heat however... static shock.

I know how you feel. I get that feeling whenever I stand too close while opening the oven.
