we are going to be in las aug 1-5. how hot is it gonna be? so many people tell me its going to be like sitting in your oven. how do my friends and i prepare for this? is it dry? anyone up for a LAS DO in august or at least drinks?

Its not that bad. Besides 5million people live in Phoenix and its hotter than Vegas by 3-5 degrees. So if 5 million people can stand it, I am sure you can do it.

Make sure to drink lots of water, you are at a higher elevation and a dry climate no your body will go thru the water much quicker. The ol' 8-10 glasses/bottles should do. Plus anytime I am in Vegas in August its always 75 degrees where I am

Please, the OP is from Wisconsin. It will be stinking hot. And how many of those 5 million people visit the ER on a daily basis for heat related issues. Yes, it is dry, so 115 will only feel like 111.

I will be in Vegas on the night of the 4th at the Wynn. I am not sure what time I will be arriving in Vegas that afternoon/evening.

Yes, it's hotter than hell, but you'll mostly be indoors.

We've been there several times in August. The evenings can be nice. 115 is hot no matter how dry - the above person is correct that maybe it will feel like 111.

Some further advice -

Do not plan to walk anywhere.

Stay in the shade.

Drink lots of water and even some propel or gatorade if you are not used to the dry climates.

What you're gonna love is when you're out at 2am, and it feels like a cool 100.

My trick for walking along the Strip... just walk through the Casinos, parallel to the sidewalk... then you leave for a minute and duck into the next casino ^

For me, I sleep during the day, wake up around 4pm, have dinner, then walk around and stay up all night when it's that bearable 100.... I mean, really, why walk in Vegas in the day time?

There are monorails between the hotels. Mandalay Bay -> Luxor -> Excalibur
Then you have MGM -> Bally's and Monte Carlo -> Bellagio -> Treasure Island. I believe they are building a single monorail that connects all the strip. I'm not sure if they are finished with it. But the point is that you are going to spend most of your time indoors. Enjoy the "free" A/C.

The monorail is a great concept... too bad you have to walk like 1/4-1/2 mile to the back of the hotels to get to them.. THEN have to wait outside in the heat for the next monorail to come.

FYI, they HAVE completed the monorail all the way to the LV Hilton. If you're in a group, I think it would be similar cost (and definitely faster) to take a cab.

You can get air conditioning comped almost anyplace, just ask a pit boss.

im looking forward to the dry heat. it can get so humid here that when you walk outside it feels like your getting hit with a wet sock. we rented a car to do a little bit of sightseeing so hopefully the air works. we will defineatly stay indoors.

I must say that even though the desert heat can be unbarable, July & August are among the months where you'll find some of the best hotel deals in Vegas.

I have conventions every Aug in LV and it is not that bad. Majority of the things you do are inside, and when you walk, you usually are walking next door. If you want to lay out in the sun and such great go for it. But we have family come in from MN and OH and they have a great time (ages vary from 30 to children to seniors as we have a family reunion like party as I live overseas).

You will not sweat as it will evaporate right away, that is the mistake most people make is that they don't think they are losing liquids, so keep drinking fluids. What get's us the most is that we come a humid environment so it is the dryness that attacks our lips and skin. Take plenty of body lotion and lip treatment even if you are indoors it will get to you.

Oh, and be prepared to be shocked to hell... the dry air creates a lot of static. Open doors by pushing on the glass

And mind the seat belt sign on the way in and out. Thermal air currents can be a ***** depending on what time of day your flight is, and on whether or not you enjoy moderate to severe turb.
