Problems at check in-Specifically United at LAS
Hi,
First time poster and had heard that check ins at McCaron have been a nightmare ( taking 4 hrs + for check ins) lately.
Does anyone have info on this and specifically the United terminal there??
Thanks in advance!

All the major airlines are in the same terminal. I have taken two flights out since 9/11. The airport was deserted the first time with no lines of any kind. The second, on Sunday evening, the busiest time, had a 10-minute line going through security but nothing else problematic.
If you do not have elite status, economy check-in lines can be long as usual.

Thanks for that information. Hooray for UA Premier elite status---or whatever it's called!!! It has gotten us on a flight after being cancelled on another ahead of many others in the past. I do feel sorry for those left standing in line though. Smallworld

Hello,
I flew in to Las Vegas Monday, Oct 1st, arrived at 12:15pm. Security lines were as long as the concourse upstairs, wraping around baggage claim. Lines were so long, there was yellow security tape to keep people from "cutting" in line. Flew out on Wednesday, Oct 3rd. Flight scheduled to leave at 11am. Got to the airport at 8:45. Airline checkin was 5 minutes (one guy used electronic checkin w/Continental, I have PLT with American), security lines were about 45 minutes (same length as above). Didn't hear/see anyone complaining about missing their flights, though.
Good luck, win back some of the money I left there for you!

I was at LV departing United yesterday. At 8:00 AM, the lines for the ticket counter started outside in the roadway. Each airline had a setup with cones in the roadway making a maze for people waiting. At the head of the outside line, you entered the terminal to join the inside maze to reach the ticket counter. Waiting time was 2-3 hours depending. 1st Class and 1K, 1P etc line was empty and made check in easy (what a benefit!). Security had no line and was almost too simple...
From talking with UA staff, last weekend was the same, except the wait for security was longer.

Returned last night from LAS. The lines were very long yesterday morning at United, but we were able to step right up to the Star Alliance gold window. Security was a breeze. They checked id at all points; check in, security and going thru the gate. We had been told to arrive 3-4 hours before our flight at LAS, yet it took us less than 30 minutes to get to the gate. But you never know. Smallworld

I was there last week & I have 2 words for you: carry-on. Lines to check baggage were horrendous @ southwest. If you can carry-on, the security lines only took about 10 minutes & since you can't check in for SW more than an hour ahead, there's no point in being early. I'd call first as tons of flights were running late. If you are there too early, you might be tempted to play those no-pay-out slots at the airport.

FWIW, the slots at the airport have the same payout odds as most casinos. Except for those machinces with specific payouts listed, all Vegas machines are set to payout the same amount as regulated by the Nevada State Gaming Commision.

I flew midmorning in early November out of LAS on UA...regular line was rather long..only a few in the Premier/First Class line..Took about 10 minutes to go through security..
Other lines were longer. It appeared that anyone checking bags had to have them hand-searched before getting up to the counter. That seemed to be the reason for long lines..Each airline had a table set up along their check-in lines..
I got there 1 hour early for my flight and had time to kill..
