Restaurants in casinos are actually already allowed to be reopened as part of Nevada's Phase 1; the Gaming Control Board ultimately still has jurisdiction but stated last week that they will place no additional restrictions on casino restaurants. Whether it is a logistical impossibility to reopen a casino restaurant while the casino remains closed is a different question, of course.

I recollect reading that as long as you didn't have to enter the "casino gaming" area to enter a restaurant it could open.
So Michael Mina (Bellagio) is in the Conservatory could open, while LeCirque (a few feet into the casino) couldn't open.

The Gaming Control Board makes a distinction between the walkways through gaming areas (where people under the age of 21 are allowed to walk, but not loiter) and the actual gaming areas (where those under 21 aren't allowed at all). Casinos get to determine where these areas are (subject to NGCB approval, of course) and there are often maps at the entrances to the properties clearly delineating these areas. The walkway that goes by Le Cirque (which also passes by Yellowtail, Lago, and now Mayfair) is certainly one of these walkways through gaming areas. I would think it'd be odd if the NGCB made a distinction between those and fully public areas, especially if the gaming areas are closed anyway.

The logistics are still the greater issue. I doubt the giant Strip casinos are going to staff security, maintenance/upkeep staff, open parking garages, etc. just to allow restaurants to open at 50% capacity (the current state Phase 1 limit); quite frankly, many of the restaurants themselves won't want to be open because they won't be able to make money at a restricted 50%.

I think I saw news reports that there are a few restaurants at off-Strip casinos that are directly accessible from outside the casino that want to open, but presumably there are still logistics issues as the casino would still have to up security/staffing numbers even if just for liability concerns.

It was Caesars but I don't know the time frame. I suspect things are changing daily as they figure it out.
I have been to the Caesars pool many times and it is always a mob scene. It is fun but unless they only allow a few people in the pool area at a time, I don't imagine any distancing. Maybe they will require pool reservations.

And no resort fees.

According to the marketing e-mail I got from Wynn Las Vegas, they intend to open 16 restaurants, 5 pools, 6 bars and lounges, etc upon reopening.

They had the editor of the Las Vegas Sun on Brian Williams' MSNBC show last night

He was talking about the casinos doing body temperature checks when you enter.
But, he couldn’t quite figure out how that was going to work when it’s 112 degrees outside.

Hmm. One would think that data has already been collected for humans who inhabit locales such as LAS, PSP and PHX in terms of their body temperature regulation during summer months...

Additionally, since mammals such as humans must able to self regulate their temperature, not having a temperature near or around 98.7F will mean death anyway.

Regarding Temperature checks one has to take into account those with Thyroid conditions that cause the temperature to fluctuate. So there is lots of work to be done. You cannot simply quarantine someone with a Thyroid condition who simply has a high temperature but no other symptoms.

Additional temperature taking considerations:
  • What if I go for a jog during the summer? Or even fall or winter? I wanna go back in to my hotel room - but now my temperature is elevated - what then?
  • If I've been admitted once with an "acceptable" temperature, get tired of the smoke inside the casino and go outside ('tho probably even more smoke), get roasted for a few minutes, and am now slightly higher than "acceptable" temp, how long do I have to wait to come back and get "rechecked"? Go to another door and entrance?
  • Went out for lunch across LV Boulevard in the middle of summer. Decided to have say some ethnic type lunch (hot soup noodles, for instance) and then walked back to the hotel/casino. Elevated temp? What then?
  • How many tries to get back in are allowed? Are their "permanent" bans if you test "too" high in some finite (say 10 minute) interval?
The mind reels...

Great questions, DELee, and they illustrate why no one (well, maybe not literally NO ONE but darn close to it) will be refused entry to any place that uses a temperature check at their gateway. It is pure "safety theater" to demonstrate a commitment that is neither genuine nor necessary, to assuage the fears of the fearful.

I have been going to Vegas every month for the past 2-3 years, but I'm not in a huge rush to be one of the first to reopen. I also question whether 3 at a blackjack table or 4 at a crap table will make the whole process much less social (irony noted) and sterile (irony intended). Not to mention that players will no longer be allowed to handle the cards (or so I've heard), but I wonder how that differs from chips which you really can't help but have the players handle.

I'm certainly happy to wait a month or two and see how things go. I have no need whatsoever to be a guinea pig.
