Nope, just the ones who may or may not have had a COVID infection, but now display an amazing range of vague symptoms that are atypical for the infection they believe has laid them low. Hypochondriacs, neurotics, the woke & masked, etc.

Sick enough to be unable to work, but healthy enough to travel by air? And do we know for sure that this alleged doubling of absence is entirely due to COVID? Is it a global phenomenon? Correlated with the generosity of sick leave pay.

Number of people on sick leave in Sweden per month. I struggle to see any marked Covid effect, let alone a doubling. Heck, more were on sick leave in 2019 than in 2020 & 2021. Almost half of those on sick leave have mental health problems anyway, not somatic issues.

Right, enough of this, I figure this thread ought to stay on track. I'll cheerfully take responsibility for derailing it. Sorry!

See my response to the poster above re: your first post. And good old Sweden, a great example - ARN is running like clockwork atm, no staff shortages to be seen.

Is it? They still advise pax to arrive 3 hours before departure...

ARN has had a big drop in passenger volume on its main carrier due to a management-driven strike by the pilots. But indeed the ARN T5 security checkpoint this week has been nothing like the mess at AMS. Even otherwise, AMS’s mess has really been a great deal worse than ARN’s mess this late spring and summer.

What are ARN’s numbers for increased wheelchair requests? The idea that the significant part of such reported increase at AMS or ARN is due to “fakers” is just out there with the idea that Armstrong’s famous walk on the moon was done on earth in a movie studio and not on the moon.

Any comments on how efficient are the KLM self tag baggage machines these days. Is there typically a large queue to use them?

Planning on getting there around 6AM for a 940AM KLM flight hopefully it’s not too much of a mess that early. There’s a couple of reports upthread of an hour check in wait with UA at 6am… but that’s a UA outstation I would hope that KLM has more capacity…. 😐

Who at Schiphol made this up? This is just plain stupid.. You have KLM staff filtering passengers coming into the SkyPriority check-in area. That should be more than enough.

Re-filtering those already filtered pax from going up to security feels a lot like discontempt from Schiphol towards KLM. They designed the airport with seperate access to security for KLM priority passengers. Instead of harassing those passengers. they should focus on getting their regular product up to par.

I flew in to AMS yesterday from SFO. Landed on-time It then took 62 minutes after the plane was parked at the gate for the first bags to come up to the belt, 58 of those minutes with me standing beside it waiting. AMS has always been slow with luggage, but more than an hour is just crazy. I can (kind of) understand a delay due to staff shortages (although I do think this is mostly just bad management by bean counters), but what I can't understand is the total lack of concrete communication towards customers. A heads up from the flight deck crew about this delay prior to landing would go a long way. If they would have told us it was going to take an hour for our bags to get to the belt, I would have stayed airside in the lounge. Could have gotten a shower, freshened up, some coffee. The problem is that you have no way of knowing what the baggage status is without actually standing beside the luggage belt. The KLM app told me my luggage was on the belt within 10 minutes after parking at the gate.

There are passengers (for instance Flying Blue Silver) who are eligible for KLM priority check-in, but not for Schiphol priority security. So it’s incorrect to say that KLM staff filtering passengers should be enough.

A 60 minute wait for your bags? Consider yourself lucky.

The estimate is 16,000 orphaned bags at Schiphol currently.

As Sjoerd says: they are just enforcing rules that have been there all along. That's fine by me. The fewer pax in the priority line, the shorter the wait.

Do you have any proof that there are not any fakers, or is that just something you happen to believe?

At priority security now: privium gates closed, need to use SP, then upstairs everyone in one line with priority at departures 2 closed, zigzagging well over 100 people all the way to departures 1. Worse I ever saw for priority and privium has zero value

KLM to cancel an additional 10-20 flights per day

Apologies if it has been noted, but NOS is reporting that KLM are cancelling an additional 10-20 rotations daily up to 28 August, and again restricting the availability of lower fare buckets to preserve space for those passengers needing to be rebooked. They also note that Cityhopper will not carry any freight/cargo until October 29 to ease the workload on ground/handling staff.

I popped over to the KLM app and, sure enough, my next KLM trip is showing an additional cancellation.

In total 42 minutes from starting downstairs (line to confirm priority eligibility, behind the SP zone) to clearing security.

I understand why they are refusing companions who don't have priority. These are truly exceptional volumes of people with priority, and too few security points to clear them.

Wow, so the Privium gate being disabled means that Privium now has exactly the same rights and advantages as regular priority...
Very useful datapoint nonetheless, thank you for reporting.

Not just KL. My LX flight out of AMS, that was scheduled for next week, got cancelled yesterday. They refuse to re-book onto KLM, and in fact not even onto *A partners. They rather have me fly LH-group and spend an extra night at FRA or MUC (No hotel provided - even though I'm in paid business). Its going to be extremely tricky to rebook this to something somewhat decent (Without booking myself and eating a 500+ Euro increase in fares). Needless to say my satisfaction with LH and how they handle this compared to KL has dropped to zero.
