Separately, how many security checkpoints are there and can you use any, regardless of which airline you're flying?

As by some kind of epiphany, Schiphol has decided to now open all available security filters come the summer busy days instead of keeping some of them closed when lines stretch across multiple terminals.
(Source: https://www.nrc.nl/nieuws/2017/05/08...rukte-a1557730) The mind boggles at the level of mismanagement of this airport. |

I just passed airside into Schengen area and the lines trying to get through security looked really bad, I hope they get it sorted soon !
Passport control was in the hands of 2 KM officers with no automatic gates operating. |

He passed 'airside into Schengen', so I think that is at the transferfilter at the D-gates going from non-Schengen to Schengen.

Two datapoints from this week:
|
What is it with these automated passport controls anyway? What's the point of them if they don't open them?
|
No clue. They're almost always off.
I was in a long passport control line Friday morning and was then summarily whisked to the front of a massive queue because I had a Dutch passport (me and a few other people). Everyone was in the 'European Passports' line because they directed people there no matter what passport. It pissed off a lot of people. No idea what's going on at Schiphol, I think they're all just making procedures up as they go along. |

Due to various technical issues the gates are so unreliable that they need a technician on standby to deal with any and all problems that may arise. If there's no technician available, they close the gates. Johan |
Totally off-topic, but... congratulations, Johan! This was your 10,000th post...

So it seems the situation for security at AMS is as bad the passport controls in CDG - the folks at AF/KL management must be very happy.
Anyway, I am transiting in AMS soon, something that did not happened to me since a while. Is the situation for connecting pax (Schengen to International, 100 minutes connection) as bad as the one for departing pax? |
Passport control is mostly horrible when arriving. Last Monday, even with holidays, queues over 1h were reported.
