Johan Immigration was a breeze, all 6 KMAR desks were open, and egates working as well, at least they seem to have managed to get one part right... |
I arrived as a non-Schengen passenger on 4 July at about 9:30 AM at AMS. Zero wait at the passport machines. There was a significant line for the non-EU passport holders.

Priority security at AMS yesterday at 5:30 - a mess. One of the two security lanes closed. Waited about 5-10 minutes in line, and another 10 minutes for my bag that went to secondary. Schiphol app showed 5-10 minutes for regular security, which frankly, seemed about right.
I had just purchased a new lightweight trolley bag that I was basically transporting empty - only a few clothes (without any metal objects) were inside. Whole thing weighted less than 3KG. And you guessed it...it went to secondary. Over there they didn't even ask to open it - just re-scanned and it was good to go. Few hours later at DUS, bus gate so I had to re-clear security for a transfer - zero problems with the same bag. Tweeted Schiphol why one of the lanes was closed, while they had promised all to be open - and they said that only applies to after 6AM. Apparently good service, and speedy security, doesn't apply early in the morning. Idiots. |
Unsurprising to hear that despite promised efforts Schiphol can always manage to mishandle security.

Went through Sky Priority security in the departure area in the terminal closest to the Citizen M (I think it's departure 3) on July 12th. (I go through that departure area even when flying KLM because in the past, and perhaps now, KLM had people stationed in the KLM terminal departure area looking for oversize/overweight baggage.)
There was zero wait at security. The automated passport gates were working (the ones on the right side, the bank on the left side was not working), and there was about a 5 minute wait there. I think the automated gates leaving are more crowded than the automated gates when arriving as various non-EU nationals are allowed to use the gates when leaving. I also noticed that Skyteam Elites were specifically allowed to use the Sky Priority security, my (perhaps faulty) memory was that only Elite+ could use it (I'm Delta Silver, so this made me happy.) Now if only they'd restrict the departure automated passport gates to EU/EEA nationals, it would really be fast. :) |

I wonder if the signage is different in the security area in the KLM terminal?
My memory was that in the past the signage did not allow Elites (as opposed to Elite+) into priority security. However, as of earlier this week when I was there the signage explicitly allowed Elites. So, if my memory is indeed correct, it seems that they changed the signage to allow Elites.

Your memory is correct, SkyTeam Elite (including FB Silver) should no longer have access to priority security.

Looking back at photo's from the opening of the new 1a security checkpoint, I only now notice the priority lane sign indeed mentions Skyteam Elite.
|
The inability of KLM to consistently implement SkyPriority is just baffling. How effing hard can it be?
|
From recent experience Silver elites cannot use the Sky Priority passport control line right before security at CDG (at AMS security is before passport control, this is reversed at CDG.)

But that is how it should be - SkyTeam Elite never was SkyPriority eligible.

That is correct - Silver entitled to "priority check-in, Priority baggage drop-off, and dedicated Silver boarding." It says nothing about priority security or passport control. https://www.flyingblue.com/about-fly.../benefits.html
I have a theory as to why they allow Elite (i.e. Silver) members access at Schiphol to priority security. All of the gates are accessible from each of the terminals at Schiphol, i.e., the security checkpoints are shared by all of the airlines. If another airline allowed its Silver equivalents (i.e. 25K miles) to use priority security, it would be unfair if KLM Silvers using the same checkpoints in KLM's home airport could not use those priority lanes. KLM Silvers would be resentful if Silver equivalents on Air Novobirsk could use priority lanes at Schiphol while they would have to wait in long non-priority lines. In fact, it appears that Oneworld elites with "Ruby" elite status, obtainable with 25K EQMs, are entitled to priority security. See charts labelled "Elite Status Qualification" and "Benefits at the Airport" here: https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...s-benefits.jsp Unlike AMS, at CDG I believe that the passport control and security is not shared by Air France with non-Skyteam airlines (or if it is, by relatively few compared to AMS) - hence priority security is limited to Golds and above.
