Finally got to fly on the Phase II tonight in 5C (EMS). Here are my thoughts:

Pros:
  • Very comfortable seats
  • Big screen
  • Power outlets (essentially 3 per person! 1x wall and 2x USB)
  • Phone remote is so cool
  • EMS has great legroom
  • Moving map is very functional
  • Blue lights
Cons:
  • No XM radio or music option (watch TV, or the moving map in silence)
  • Tiny tray table
  • Narrow armrests
Overall a very nice customer experience. The way of the future? Not quite.

I also feel bad for whoever the FAs are in the back. Those are some very cramped quarters, much less space than on the A321 Core.

How unfortunate that there is no XM on these planes. That's gotten me through many transcons. I'm disappointed that this seems to have been purposely kept secret as well. This should have been included in the press releases and/or paid blog posts about the refurbs.

Yeah, I have to say I like the XM radio better than the TV, this is a bummer. On many flights, I'll put up the map with music and read rather than watch TV. I honestly like the chance to listen to something other than the music on my own device...but I suppose the whole concept of "radio" is fading as it is.

N779JB has returned, and with that, the 30% completion point has been reached. (40/130 aircraft).

Rumor is that HAECO at LCQ will no longer perform the cabin refreshes, and Aeroman in SAL will complete the rest of the fleet.

Yep. It went to SAL for a month, but wasn't on the mod line.

None of the planes that are currently in SAL for the cabin refresh have been there for a full month yet. I typically don't check until one leaves SAL because barring scheduling conflicts, it's usually a 1 for 1 swap where one finished aircraft leaves SAL, and another one gets rotated in from a JetBlue focus city no more than 24 hours later. They used to stagger the arrivals, but since the summer schedule and the A321neo delays have delayed the rotations, 4 of the 5 will most likely be released within the span of a week since they all went around the same time.

I heard through the grapevine that they'll expand the number of lines that will be concurrently doing this work once JetBlue switches over to their winter schedule.

I have heard that as well, especially since LCQ is out of the picture now.

N2016J, the second A321neo, is now in service. The night before last it did the JFK-BUR redeye turn. Tonight it will operate the JFK-SMF redeye turn.

I flew on 558 last week which is Phase 1. I may have enjoyed it a bit too much.

Meh. Phase 1 is the same as the A321 with the clunky LTV4. At least it has XM.

Without straying too far off topic, is the XM radio being continued on the E190s and non-rehabbed A320s for the time being? Just did a round trip on one of each, and the XM was dead on both. TV worked fine on the 320, but only barely on the 190 (some channels OK, but video for most pretty scrambled).

Overall, both of those cabins were in among the worst shape (appearance wise) I've seen in 9 years of flying B6 so I guess these refurbs can't come soon enough.
