If we have problems with uploading the California Health QR code can we just bring the physical CDC index cards with vax records?

I hate to travel with the original cards but I don’t want to risk getting shut out at immigration because my phone can’t connect to the internet. Had a problem in Mexico when I could not connect at the airport to fill out a redundant health form (after airline had already validated the test results)

You can save your California Vax card to your phone wallet so you can access it offline.

Also, I used the same digital vaccine card to submit for the Visit Japan website vaccine record upload. It was approved within 30min.

I uploaded a picture of the vaccine card and didn't have any issue. Once I show them the color webpage I was instructed to pass through. I did carry the card just in case.

Now that Japan is ending COVID border controls starting May 8

https://japantoday.com/category/nati...rols-on-May-8?

I wonder if VJW will be kept, or whether we'll go back to the pre-COVID days. The article wasn't rich in details...
"Japan will end the current border control measures on travelers from overseas on May 8 in line with its decision to categorize COVID-19 as a common disease the same day, the government said"

Here's the official word on this; https://www.mhlw.go.jp/stf/covid-19/bordercontrol.html

Those who are entering Japan on or after May 8, 2023, will not be required to present a valid vaccination certificate or pre-departure inspection certificate, as the category of COVID-19 will be changed to a Class V Infectious Disease under the Infectious Disease Control Law. However, please note that quarantine measures upon entry into Japan may be strengthened as necessary, if a new infectious disease outbreak occurs overseas.
It will go back to pre-covid days, from a COVID/fast track perspective, from what I understand. Though I would assume the immigration/customs QR code part of VJW will stick around as updated tech.

I find VJW to be worse than what was in place previously (filling out paper forms) because of traveling with kids who don't have their own phones. Another reason is oftentimes the "paper" customs line is much shorter than the ones using the QR code.

Oh nice...we are traveling in mid-May...great timing for us

I can't remember - pre-COVID, you did need to fill out paper forms for regular entry, right? I'm assuming this will still be the case for immigration entry (or is there an app)?

Hi,

Pre covid there was an immigration and customs form to fill out,

There is now a web site for it which generates a qr code for the immigration and customs form

Forms are here

Visit Japan Web | Digital Agency

I put my child’s QR codes on my phone (screenshots) and it was accepted without any issues. The only hassle was trying to pull down a live QR code for the health screen but it sounds like that will go away soon.

agree about the customs - it is hit or miss but still pretty quick either way and light years ahead of others where everything is X-ray

In December there was a long line for the Customs machine. We had done both paper and QR version. No line at the traditional customs line.

Sounds like good to have both.

Same here for Immigration+Customs (NRT).. waving both printed QR and traditional card -> traditional line == no queue.

The checking of the quarantine part of VJW will not only happen in the departure airport. Or just vaccine certificate or PCR result. As of April 5th. The immigration and customs side of VJW will continue unchanged

Good to know! I had registered for the VJW site but didn't finish the process as our trip was pretty far out - is it worth filling out the paper forms on the plane as well?
