First two pics are from Senjojiki - which is a 333M high cliff and amazing views - and then just a bit down the road at the well known shrine….

View of the gate at 1413 ( about 20mins before low tide). This was Wednesday of Golden week so the shopping streets got busier in the early afternoon). No issues with ferries from the mainland

Looking back towards the island and the shrine from the sea side of the torii gate @1430 ( low tide)


It was a beautiful day ( temperature in the low 20s celsius) and felt blessed to experience the shrine and the island in such beautiful weather. With care you can avoid getting your shoes soaked ( you are likely to get your shoes slightly damp) if you want to go past the shrine sea side and there was a small shallow stream running in the middle of the shrine from land to sea. Worst waiting time for a ferry was c 5mins on the return ( just missed one) as I walked straight onto one on the outbound.

That "well known shrine" is by any chance Motonosumi Inari? How does one get there from the closest JR station? Any practical public transportation available other than taxi? (driving is not an option).

If you like cycling, you can take the train to Senzaki or Nagatoshi and rent a bike from the Senzaki Michi no Eki.
It's a very nice although somewhat difficult 50 km loop there and back.
