Three hours is plenty of time at the airport. I prefer two, but everyone is different. Depending on how you’re travelling to NRT, your departure time might depend on the schedule of the limousine bus from your hotel or the train from the nearest station. Check Google maps for directions from your hotel.

Hi,

Also depending on the airline, check in desks may only open 3 hours prior to departure ( ANA and JAL would be open all day being their main airports) (
Singapore airlines desks open 3 hours prior to departure

Arriving NGO from USA/ connecting to HND

Arriving NGO on JL from USA with a three hour window connecting to a JL flight to HND.

Just to confirm:

1.. We enter Japan at NGO, with customs and immigration?

2.. Three hour window is more than sufficient?

3. We won t need to change terminals?

4. How is luggage given back to JL after customs?

Many thanks!

1. Yes

2. Yes

3. You'll change terminal areas from international to domestic

4. You will take your bags through customs, out into the arrival hall, upstairs to the 3rd floor, and re-check with JAL

I have a few questions connecting my 2 international flights in NRT Terminal 1

-I have checked in luggage
-Arrival via WestJet
-Departure via Shenzhen Airline
-2.5 Hours in between
-The 2 are not "connecting" flights

Questions:
1. Do I have to collect my checked luggage and go through customs?
2. Do I need to leave the arrival hall and re-check in at the departure hall?
3. Is 2.5 hours sufficient for all these?

Yes. I think unlikely WestJet will through check your luggage at Canada.

Yes, most likely you have to do that.

Do you hold Japanese passport or Japanese residency? If not, it is nothing unusual for non-Japanese citizens to take more than an hour to clear passport control and customs. Also, what passport do you hold? Make sure your passport allows visa free entry to Japan. Shenzhen Air closes check in 35 min. before the departure at NRT., you will have 1 hour and 55 min. to clear passport control and customs at NRT, given your WestJet flight arrives on time at NRT.

Haneda Transfer

First time traveling through Haneda. I've secured an F award on JAL arriving at Haneda at 3:05pm. I'm only transiting though, and am planning on continuing on to China via China Eastern departing at 5:35pm. These flights are on separate tickets, but it appears that sterile transfers are possible at Haneda. However, I'm not sure if I'll be able to check in for my China Eastern flight online or if I'll need to check in landside at the CE counter. Will they require me to show a boarding pass for my CE flight at the international transfer station or will I be able to check in there for that flight, if I'm not able to check in online?

If that's not possible, is 2.5hrs sufficient to exit customs, check in for my CE flight at the desk, and then to back through customs/security?

I won't have a checked bag and this is all within Terminal 3.

Transit security does not require you to have your boarding pass, they will in principle be fine with a print of your e ticket. I don't know where or if China Eastern has a transit counter airside where they can print a boarding pass.

Thanks, this is helpful. I'm thinking I will probably risk it and just buy a changeable ticket on CE just in case. Of course this wouldn't be a problem if the Air China flights later that night weren't pricing at $1k+ one way in Economy. Must be all the Tokyo-Beijing commuters heading there on business.

Have a question about long layover in Narita, I know that Narita close at night and you have to exist. I have a flight from LAX-TPE with overnight layover in Narita, both flights on same ticket on JAL.

LAX-NRT lands at 4PM
NRT-TPE is next day at 9AM

If I checked in luggage, would I need to collect luggage at NRT, then exit, and recheck them tomorrow? Thank in advance.

As long as it is below 24 hours, you would not need to reclaim luggage.

Looking to make a connection at HND on separate tickets with only carry on bag. Planning on arriving on NH into T2 at 11:15 and then departing with BA from T3 at 13:05. Is that doable or too risky?

I am assuming you are arriving into T2 on a domestic NH flight, so you just need to take the terminal transfer bus, check-in with BA (unless you have a mobile boarding pass), go through security and outbound immigration at T3 and then be on your way - so yes, it's doable. Tight but doable.

If on separate tickets, I personally would not have a connection time this tight though.

T2 has international arrivals as well. Which would include catching the airside bus to T3 and go through transit security in T3. Still remain tight but doable. No room for delays in arrival.
