That puts you in a working class suburb with plenty of reasonable restaurants - Pick one of the best rated around the station from Google Maps.

If you are open to changing your plan, I would recommend staying in central Tokyo - somewhere near a station on the Asakusa line, such as Higashi Ginza station or Asakusa station. If, for example, you were to stay near Asakusa station, you could take an airport expres train (Keisei line) from NRT to Asakusa station, explore Tokyo a little, and then take an airport train from Asakusa station to HND the following day. You have plenty of time to get to HND for a midday departure.

The Anamori-Inari Station area itself is a "working class suburb with plenty of reasonable restaurants" -- just go on Google Maps and you'll see all kinds of options within a 5-minute walk from the JAL City hotel. Kamata is more like a city center area with lots of high-rise buildings. Definitely more exciting area, but not necessary to go there just to eat.

But I agree that Higashi-Ginza or Asakusa would be way more interesting options with direct train access to HND. Shinagawa is another popular option, though quite a bit more bland and corporate.

Thanks for all of this. It took 4 hours from deplaning at NRT to checking into the JAL City hotel and then it was pouring rain. My timing worked out that I was able to get the NRT HND limo bus with 5 minutes to spare and the JAL City Hotel shuttle with 3 minutes to spare. Had I missed one or both, it would have added another hour. I did find a nice noddle restaurant near the train station, however. Next time, I'll take the advice and consider central Tokyo.

As an aside - an observation - not a complaint. Immigration at NRT was jammed. Frankly I was quite surprised about the process as to efficiency and 'fairness'. The line was long and only about 50% of the stations were open. In the middle of the line, there was a random stop for a passport scan, fingerprints, and a photo. I was selected. But about 20 non-selected people got to continue in line in front of me. And then the passport scan, fingerprints, and a photo repeated itself at the customs exit. Note that I had my QR code from pre-registration, but not a word was said on the KUL NRT flight about needing it. Many passengers got to the immigration desk, did not have the QR code, had to fill out the form, but were allowed to keep their place in line while completing the form, thus holding up others that were prepared. Of course all immigration/customs officials were exceeding nice! Again, not a complaint.

Boarding passes rarely show terminals. But if you are flying AA T3, JAL international T3, JAL domestic T1.

Back again with another request for advice. This will be in January and noting heavy luggage. Arriving at HND (from JFK) at 1740 Tuesday. My next flight isn't until 1725 Wednesday out of NRT. Note that I don't need the NH lounge experience again. First time visitor.

Recommend that I stay at a HND airport hotel, up early, go into Tokyo for awhile (leaving my luggage at the hotel), and then the HND-NRT limo bus? OR go ahead and get to a NRT hotel and settle in, and again up early and into Tokyo? It looks as if the train NRT to say Ginza is about 80 minutes and the train Seibijo (JAL Hotel HND) to Ginza is about 30 minutes.

Also, considering storing my large bag at one of the airports and picking up upon departure. I was provided previous advice to stay the night in central Tokyo. If I did so, I'd want to stay at a hotel connected to or within a block or two of a train station. Any recommendations? (edit - not sure about Tokyo taxies - if a credit card is accepted and the driver's don't mind a short ride from a train station, I'm open to expanding beyond a block or two)

TIA!

My recommendation would be to book a hotel in town and leave the luggage there, they'll have no issues with holding your bags for the morning/afternoon after checking out.
Where to stay depends on what you want to do the rest of the evening and the morning. I used to stay in the Akihabara/Ueno area and then take the Keisei Skyliner to the airport from Ueno. Heavy/large bags aren't going to be a pleasant experience on the train from HND during the rush hour but the limousine bus to Ueno will get you there with minimal aggravation. It's about 45 minutes from turnstile to turnstile on the Skyliner and there shouldn't be much of a crowd in the afternoon.

Is 1h20m transfer domestic Y to International J at NRT possible?

Hello everyone. Looking for some advice before booking.

I'm looking at an itinerary from ITM-->NRT-->LAX on ANA with a window of 1h 20min. It would be on the same reservation.

So would my bags be checked from ITM all the way to LAX?

Would I remain airside and have to do only immigration since it's the same airline and terminal? Also has anyone done this type of connection at NRT before? ANA website says 45 minutes is the minimum transfer time from domestic to international but I was hoping for some more real world advice. For context the domestic flight arrives at 3:40pm.

Thanks in advance!

80 minute layover in NRT from domestic to international on the same airline.

Hi just wanted to see if this will be okay. On my way back home I am planning a NH flight from ITM-NRT-LAX which has an 80minute layover in NRT. Since it's going to be on the same reservation I take it that my bags will be checked all the way through. Will 80 minutes be enough to make our connecting flight on NH?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for feedback on current plans for travel from NRT to hotel+ best way to get to HND the next day.

Arriving KUL-NRT ~4pm and departing next day HND-SEA ~9pm. Will be traveling with a regular sized suitcase + carry-on.

Staying at the Westin Tokyo and looks like the Limo bus from NRT to the hotel would be the simplest option. For the next day trip to HND, all options seem to involve a train transfer or a bus/train combo which I’d like to avoid due to the luggage.

Any better options?

Thanks

Haneda would have no direct train option. The option would be to change to the Prince Sakura Tower (assuming you are set on a Bonvoy property) or if staying at the Westin, take a taxi. My guess would be 8,000 to 10,000 yen. Otherwise yeah, Yamato line to Shinagawa, Keikyu line from there.

Thanks for the details. Trying to use an expiring award and Princess Sakura Tower has no availability. Only options that work with the award (+ additional points) are Westin Tokyo, Sheraton Miyako , Courtyard Ginza, Aloft Ginza and Courtyard Tokyo station.

Looks like Courtyard Tokyo station might be a better option vs Westin Tokyo?

Courtyard Tokyo Station is not that nice, and does not have a direct train to Haneda. Courtyard Ginza is close to Higashi Ginza Station and can be reached nonstop plus 5-10 minutes walk from both Narita and Haneda. And it is nicer than Tokyo Station CY.
Aloft Ginza is closer to Higashi Ginza Station, and not bad. Though the rooms are a bit small.

Need help to understand how domestic connection works in Japan (a bit hard to search this thread).
I have a flight FUK-HND-JFK via JAL, layover for 2-2.5 hours in HND. Is it enough time? Should you pick-up your luggage and check-in again in HND or it's just checked-in at FUK till JFK and you just transfer terminals/gates in Haneda? Any additional controls at Haneda airport that we should expect?
Thank you!

At FUK, you will check in at "Through Check-in Service for Int'l Connecting Flight" at JAL counter. Look at the 1st floor diagram. This check-in is specific for passengers flying out on domestic flights at FUK and connecting to international flights at other airports. Your luggage will be checked all the way to JFK at FUK, you do not have to deal with checked luggage at HND. You will get boarding pass for both FUK-HND and HND-JFK at FUK.

At HND, you need to transfer from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3. Once you arrive at Terminal 3 of HND, you need to go through departure passport control and the security. You need to go through security again at HND because domestic flights in Japan has slightly different liquid allowalce through security than international flights.

Thank you so much! Do you think 2-2.5 h is enough for this connection?
