I saw some posts somewhere awhile back regarding NH and JL flights from GMP to HND. JL had them listed for June, NH starting in July. Now it looks like JL has cancelled the June flights. I have an (Alaska) JL award booking from GMP-HND-LAX at the end of June and still showing as "intact" on Alaska. I'm sure it'll error out soon. :-(
***edited to add: The GMP-HND flight still shows as fine when I manage my booking on the JAL site, yet the June flights seem to have all dropped on Google Flights. Can anybody confirm whether or not JAL GMP-HND flights are happening now that we're in June? Hmmmmm... |

My flight arriving in Narita on July 5th via Sri Lankan air(T2), connecting to LAX via zip air which is in T1. These are two separate flights. My understanding is you have to go through the immigration then retrieve your check in bags. So, what if I take only carry on? Would that work without entering Japan? Would I be able to go from T2 to T1? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Yeah you should be fine with carryon only. No other airlines interline with zip-air aside from other very specific zip-air flights (I've been researching this for a month or so). But for carryon you will just go through normal transit entry, they will verify your passport and your onward flight and dump you in to the international terminal. There will be no need to enter Japan as long as you are only bringing carryon bags. Assuming you can get from T2 to T1, the one piece I don't have experience with, but I'm sure someone else will answer up here to validate.
I had a similar issue with Scoot in Singapore even though I was hand carry only AND there’s a Scoot transit counter airside, since this transit counter will only airside check in FROM interlined airlines including separate tickets. Thankfully, I was able to go landside and check in at the main counters. |

Until the 14th of June, the flights are cancelled. From the 15th onwards will be announced later.

There's supposed to be an announcement when the foreign minister of Korea flies from GMP to HND around 6/19. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/20...r-japan-visit/
In a bid to represent the restart of Japan-South Korea exchanges, Park reportedly plans to come to Japan on a flight from Seoul’s Gimpo International Airport to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport ahead of the expected reopening of the Gimpo-Haneda route in June. |
The HND-GMP reopening (originally for "early June") delay was supposedly caused by necessity to hire additional staff and set up arrival screening apparatus, and the new date is supposedly 6/15. But I suspect it will be later. Reasons:
1. JL has massively cut back its tentative June schedule. Yes, 6/1-6/14 outright canceled. Then there were initially 3x flights daily from 6/15 on (still selling as of May), but they first reduced it to Thurs and Sun only (meaning earliest possible is 6/16), and presently down to just one morning flight on those two days (all mid afternoon and evening flights canceled). That's for Japan--> Korea direction; I don't remember the other. 2. A South Korean politician is set to board the ceremonial reopening flight on 6/19, so that might be the first. |
I have a round trip ORD-NRT in August. I’m not sure if Japan is open by then so I’m changing my plans. I’m thinking of booking a separate ticket to BKK.
NRT-BKK via Thai Airways on the same day. I may be able to check in for both flights with NH agent in Chicago right? I’m kind of worried about my inbound. I’ll fly to NRT from BKK via Zipair. Will i be able to check in for my NH NRT-ORD airside? |

That said, assuming Japan doesn't open by August, if you are carryon only, you should be able to check in for your NH flight at the transfer desk at NRT (keep in mind no overnight layovers at NRT), or you could attempt to check in at the NH desk at BKK (I've done this in the US, not sure if it'll work at BKK) if they are open when you're there and just get that piece out of the way early and get your boarding pass. Someone did raise a question in this thread a few weeks back about whether Zipair arrivals in NRT will allow you to proceed to the transfer area, but from my memory, all arrival flights end up being ushered by the transfer counters, regardless of airline, before immigration. |

ORD-NRT-BKK should be fine, both are Star Alliance, so NH should be able to book you through. I've booked through UA/NH no problem. The way back could be problematic if you have checked bags. You can't check bags through Zipair to NH and Zipair only interlines with itself, and only on very specific flights listed on their website (SIN-NRT-LAX for example).

However, there may be the complication that they will refuse boarding on the context of not allowing connections, and the passenger not being able to enter Japan? |
I have a friend flying LAX-NRT on United and then NRT-BKK on Japan Airlines. Arrival and departure in Narita are on same day with 3.5 hour layover. I am trying to figure out if they will have any problems connecting.
I wanted to confirm following:

United does not check luggage through to non Star Alliance carriers on separate tickets. So carry on only. Yes, they can get a boarding pass airside for JAL. There are transit counters that can manage it. |
Question regarding SQ - if we fly Sin-Nrt-USA with sin-nrt on Sq (separate ticket) and the. Nrt-USA on JAL (separate ticket) will Sq interline all the way through to USA? We needed to change a flight and the JAL sin-nrt flight doesn’t align correctly so we have to fly a different carrier, but we have checked luggage. We are skipping the much cheaper Zip in hopes that sq can accommodate.

But why not take SQ12, the same flight goes SIN NRT NRT LAX? JL712 should align fine with JL62. 16:20 arrival, 17:20 departure. Of course on separate tickets, an hour is a bit risky. But JAL should be able to sell one ticket all the way. |

That is really a question for the SQ forum, what the rules are with SQ for checking luggage through on separate tickets.
