My thanks to both you and Oldtimer for the summaries ^

My question , directed at those of you who have experience in Japan ... any likelihood that the banks would attempt to scuttle JLs restructuring because they feel it doesn't go far enough ( pretty ironic as my understanding is that the banking industry in Japan needs , and has resisted , a major restructuring themselves !) ?

Or do you think the government is likely to rein them in and persuade them that it is not in the best interests of "Japan inc" to push JL under ?

My guess would be the latter , but if so I am surprised that the banks would publicly criticise what appears to be a pretty severe restructuring - it looks to me as though JL are finally taking the whole thing seriously . Any thoughts ?

During my upcoming RTW in J, I had carefully chosen 3 regional JL 767 flights and one intercontinental JL 777 flight. 777 flight (NRT-DEL) remains intact thank goodness. But now the three regionals will be 738, should I be greatly disappointed or is there not really a big difference on a 2 or 3 hour flight? (ie PEK-KIX, KIX-PVG, PVG-NRT).

No doubt as JAL 744 should be one of the best maintained.... though their domestic 744 should ready to head grave yard once retired as they probably burn up their cycles.

And more to come. By retiring all 744 JAL are dropping routes with an 80% average loading because they no longer have enough aircraft.

The Australian....
Passenger loads had averaged 80 per cent since JAL switched from an older Boeing 747 to a near-new 767.

According to JAL, its decision to quit Brisbane was due to a requirement by administrators that the airline sells its fleet of 14 Boeing 747 aircraft and retire its ageing Airbus A300s.

"This meant Brisbane's B767 will be allocated to another route in the JAL network," BAC said.

I have been checking intermittently regarding the loading of the new routes (in particular I am looking at HND-SFO and HND-TSA), any indications as to when these are going to be loaded as of yet?

Not until after the Japanese government has allocated the new slots...ANA (the greedy .......) is still fighting for more slots.
